Medical errors account up to 250,000 patient deaths annually. Research suggests medical errors are attributable to poor healthcare team communications. The Institute of Medicine posits that communication and teamwork are essential components to safe and successful health care environments. According to the Joint Commission poor communication is considered the root cause of nearly 80% of all serious medical errors. Background: In 2021, cancer (CRC) screening rates for Latino men (42%) and women (47.5%) remain well below the Health People 2020 target (70.5%). Extensive documentation of barriers for screening include language, insurance status, and other sociocultural barriers which contribute to delays in diagnosis and/or diagnosis at advanced stages of the disease, and worse health outcomes. Latinos need culturally and linguistically appropriate health promotion interventions aimed to increase CRC screening rates with any modality (FIT, Cologuard, or Colonoscopy).

More than 34 million people in the United States have diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major complication of diabetes and a leading cause of vision loss. Risk factors for diabetic retinopathy include Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and being African American or Hispanic/Latino. This scoping review seeks to analyze the current research on ways to increase vision screenings, thus reducing cases of diabetic retinopathy in adults.

Sadly, over half of the individuals living with chronic HCV are unaware of their condition (Halket et al., 2022). High blood pressure (HBP), also known as Hypertension (HTN), is a common diagnosis for primary care office visits in the United States; however, a persistent gap remains between the stated public health targets and achieved blood pressure (BP) control rates in the United States (US). In a small sample of patients with essential HTN (ICD 10: I10) receiving primary care at a mid-western Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), a chart audit tool revealed 10 out of 10 patients achieved BP control during the measurement period (defined as a BP reading <140/90). Quality improvement (QI) analysis revealed the bigger picture: Achieved BP control rates of patients does not reflect the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association HBP guidelines.
