Above all else, children require stability in their lives in order to develop a healthy perspective of the world. Feelings of instability can come from something as small as a change in schools. In the practice of pediatric medicine it is especially important to avoid these feelings of instability, which can lead children to develop healthcare-anxiety. Healthcare settings can be exceptionally emotionally taxing to children, because the children have a complete lack of control over their environment. Full Practice Authority: Determining Readiness Among Nurse Practitioner Students In Mississippi, Betty Hoffman

Full practice authority has been granted to nurse practitioners by many states. These practitioners are educated and trained as full primary providers of health care. Full practice authority for nurse practitioners is not granted in Mississippi, which currently ranks in the lowest positions for health care in the United States. The low ranking can be attributed to a lack of providers and access to services.

This project seeks to explore attitudes and understanding of nurse practitioner students in the State of Mississippi regarding full practice authority. A survey will be electronically distributed to determine what is already known and understood …

The purpose of this retrospective project is to assess the effectiveness of a completed quality improvement project via chart review. The project utilized glucose gel as a first line therapy for the management neonatal hypoglycemia in at-risk infants. Neonatal hypoglycemia is the most common metabolic abnormality and is associated with many undesirable side effects. Current treatment methods such as formula feeding and IV therapy are costly, invasive, and disruptive to family bonding. 2022 Celebration of Scholarly Works

The purpose of this research was to identify the psycho-emotional needs of family-caregivers of individuals who sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and measure if there was a change in knowledge among occupational therapists, and occupational therapy students following a two-hour seminar covering topics identified in the literature. The topics covered in the seminar included the concept of ambiguous loss, the importance of validating emotions, the caregiver grieving process, and the importance of providing caregiver resources. To measure the change in knowledge, researchers utilized primarily a quantitative research design using pre- and post-test questionnaires with Likert- scale questions. The questionnaire …

CECE Spring Poster Session 2022

This qualitative research explored the impact of immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences on student pharmacist knowledge, attitudes, and anticipated behaviors, when used as a supplement to traditional didactic education. Participants completed one or more simulated VR experiences role-playing a person with Alzheimer's Disease, which included experiencing realistic visual and auditory disturbances, struggling with language comprehension, and displaying symptoms of aphasia. Post experience, students completed several short essay prompts. Overall, the study assessed student's self-perceived empathy and anticipated changes to provision of patient care as a result of this activity.
