Identifying The Physical Activity Promotion Practices Of Obstetricians And Gynecologists: Patients With Endometriosis And Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Allison P. Herman

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Despite efforts to promote physical activity, many females in Canada do not meet recommended physical activity guidelines. For individuals with gynecological conditions such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), physical activity may aid in symptom management and improve daily functioning. Healthcare settings, including obstetrics and gynecology, represent an area of opportunity to promote physical activity among this population. This thesis aims to understand the physical activity promotion practices of Ontario-based Obstetricians and Gynecologists (OBGYNs) to patients with endometriosis and/or PCOS. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted to explore OBGYNs promotional practices and perceived factors influencing their engagement in physical …

OBJECTIVE:

To examine the association between neighborhood-level social determinants of health and stillbirth.

METHODS:

We performed a retrospective cohort study of deliveries that occurred at a gestational age of at least 20 weeks within a five-hospital system (2012-2022). Electronic health record data mapped to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model were geocoded using addresses at the time of delivery and linked to neighborhood health indices, which included the Area Deprivation Index (ADI), Maternal Vulnerability Index (MVI), and Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) at the Census tract level. Stillbirths were adjudicated by medical record review. Modified Poisson regression generated relative …

The Connection Between Medicaid And Obesity In Northeast Ohio, Emmie Kelley, Sophie Kheder 2026 The University of Akron

The Connection Between Medicaid And Obesity In Northeast Ohio, Emmie Kelley, Sophie Kheder

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

Obesity is a major public health concern in the United States that is projected to increase exponentially over the next few years. Obesity is commonly associated with a lower socioeconomic status. Lower-income individuals tend to be supported by Medicaid, a federal insurance program for low-income Americans. Prior studies have shown a positive correlation between income status and obesity prevalence. Our goal was to find if there was a correlation between Medicaid patients and obesity in Northeast Ohio, to provide physicians with a set of characteristics to better combat obesity, since preventative and treatment guidelines are tailored to national trends. We …

Advancing Safe Medication Administration During Pediatric Emergency Care Through Nurse Education: A Quality Improvement Project, Ciera Hunter 2026 University of New Hampshire

Advancing Safe Medication Administration During Pediatric Emergency Care Through Nurse Education: A Quality Improvement Project, Ciera Hunter

Master's Theses and Capstones

Background: Due to the increased complexities of pediatric medication administration, preventable errors occur at a higher rate than in general adult populations. Rural emergency departments (EDs) often see fewer pediatric patients and have less specialized support available on-site. Nurse continuing education is an evidence-based intervention to reduce medication administration errors making it vital to supporting patient safety and maintaining pediatric readiness.

Local Problem: The microsystem is a rural, critical access hospital in northern New England. In 2021, the microsystem scored 66/81 on the National Pediatric Readiness Project’s (NPRP’s) ED Assessment. In 2026, the score dropped 11 points to 55/81. Contributing …

Improving Efficiency In The Intensive Care Unit Through Reduction Of Nurse Burnout: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Johanna Grace Koroma

Master's Theses and Capstones

Abstract

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) nursing is prone to high levels of burnout, which poses concern for staff wellbeing, patient safety, and microsystem strain (Kerlin et al., 2020). Educational interventions may serve as a means of increasing awareness on the issue and reducing the effects of burnout, through promotion of evidence-based management strategies.

Local Problem: One ICU microsystem identified several key contributing factors to nurse burnout, including staffing shortages, limited resources, competing responsibilities within the macrosystem, and insufficient organizational support (Zhang et al., 2025). Baseline survey data of the population observed a prevalence of 50% “high” burnout profiles among …

Enhancing Hospital Length Of Stay Using Ai Agent Modular Capabilities, Dami Fred 2026 Illinois State University

Enhancing Hospital Length Of Stay Using Ai Agent Modular Capabilities, Dami Fred

Theses and Dissertations

Hospital Length of Stay (LOS) analysis is essential for managing hospital efficiency and financial performance, yet the analytical depth required remains inaccessible to many organizations due to technical and resource constraints. This thesis introduces the AI Agent Modular Capabilities (AIAM) framework, which decomposes LOS analysis into discrete, codifiable capabilities integrated into a single skill activatable with one prompt. Seven AI Agent Modular Capabilities were developed using a Work Breakdown Structure and tested against a simulated hospital scenario across three successive skill versions. Results demonstrate that the packaged AIAM skill produces comprehensive, consistent, multi-section LOS analyses from a single interaction, outperforming …

Improving Trauma Resuscitation Through Video Review: A Quality Improvement-Oriented Literature Review, Joshua Smith, Leena Iqbal

North Texas GME Research Forum 2026

Background Trauma resuscitation is a high-acuity, time-critical environment characterized by diagnostic uncertainty, simultaneous interventions, and complex team dynamics. Despite the widespread adoption of standardized trauma frameworks such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), deviations from best practice and process variability remain common. Trauma video review (TVR) has emerged as a method to objectively evaluate resuscitation performance beyond traditional documentation.

Methods A narrative literature review was conducted of English-language publications examining the use of video recording and structured video review in trauma resuscitation. Peer-reviewed articles and relevant gray literature were identified through database and citation searches. Included works evaluated TVR for …

Enhancing Safety And Efficiency In Cardiac Admission Handoffs Through Implementation Of An I-Pass Checklist: A Quality Improvement Project, Soraia D. Barros

Master's Theses and Capstones

Abstract

Background: Effective care handoff is a necessary step for maintaining patient safety during hospitalizations. The goal of this quality improvement project was to improve the completeness of information, particularly cardiac-related, provided by the ED staff to the CSSU nurses. The implementation involved the creation of a cardiac checklist and applying it to the pre-existing I-PASS forms used during asynchronous handoff.

Local Problem: The macrosystem implemented an updated system for handoffs between the ED and CSSU by substituting an over-the-phone report with a faxed I-PASS sheet. The result, as identified by the CSSU staff, is that reports contain undetailed patient …

Transition To Home Guideline For Patients With Diabetes, Kathleen R. Burgner 2026 University of Texas at Arlington

Transition To Home Guideline For Patients With Diabetes, Kathleen R. Burgner

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Background: Diabetes is a leading contributor to preventable hospital readmissions. These hospital readmissions often result from fragmented discharge planning, poor care coordination, and limited post-discharge support. At a 915-bed academic medical center in Southern California, the diabetes-related readmission rate was 13.3%, compared with 11.4% among patients without diabetes. This project aimed to develop an evidence-based Transition-to-Home (TTH) guideline for hospitalized patients with diabetes and evaluate the strength of its recommendations through multidisciplinary stakeholder review.

Methods: An evidence-based guideline development project was conducted over 8 weeks. A comprehensive literature search in CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed, and ScienceDirect identified current evidence on transitional …

Leading The Way In Pediatric Oral Health Promotion, Denise C. Mckinney

Dental Hygiene Faculty Publications

[Introduction] Dental hygienists promote oral health and provide preventive services to patients throughout their lifespan. The Commission on Dental Accreditation, Dental Hygiene Standards emphasize that graduates must be competent in providing dental hygiene care for all patient populations, including children.¹ In fact, promoting pediatric oral health begins prior to birth with the expectant mother and/or caregiver. Oral health care to include education is essential during pregnancy; specifically, around the prevention and treatment of dental caries for the mother and the unborn child.² In the U.S., from 2013-2016, roughly 30% of women aged 20-44 years had untreated dental caries.³ Expectant mothers …
