Introduction—Significance and Background: Aggressive opioid prescription practices play the biggest role in opioid-related behaviors and contribute to an epidemic of abuse. If started on long-term opioid therapy without screening, patients who are high risk for opioid abuse could overdose on their prescribed opioids. Current practice does not follow guidelines on monitoring opioid misuse behaviors utilizing a secondary screening tool for patients on long-term therapy.

Introduction: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is the most prevalent nosocomial infection pathogen responsible for antibiotic associated diarrhea. CDI is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality rates of medical patients and has increased due to frequent broad spectrum antibiotic usage. CDI is associated with a mortality rate of 25% amongst medical patients. At this catholic hospital in the Northeast of the United States, there is currently no official intervention implemented to prescribe a probiotic when patients are started on antibiotics. Evidence supports that probiotics agents have demonstrated modest success in the risk reduction of CDI to patients receiving antibiotic therapy. …

Public health depends on the efficiency of work delivery among healthcare workers (HCWs) and their positive goal orientation in healthcare. Effective minimizing of needlestick and sharp injuries (NSSIs) and timely reporting are fundamental to meeting public health goals. The specific research problem addressed through this study is whether the independent variable of exposure type (needle stick injury, splash exposure injury, other sharp injuries) has an association with stigma associated with sharps injury reporting (dependent variable) among HCWs in ambulatory surgical centers. Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), specifically clostridioides difficile (CDI) and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia, increase mortality and length of stay and cost the United States billions of dollars each year. Though preventable, continued incidence demonstrates that infection prevention interventions remain challenging for health system administrators. The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify whether there was a significant difference between Magnet accreditation and non-Magnet accreditation and the frequency of HAIs, specifically, CDI and MRSA bacteremia. AbstractPhysical activity (PA) is recognized as a treatment protocol for lung cancer patients that improves physical impairments and reduces symptoms of psychological stress. This qualitative interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) study was conducted to explore the lived experience of lung cancer patients and how PA is influenced by anxiety, depression, and fatigue. This study was guided by Bandura’s self-efficacy theory and Engel’s biopsychosocial model. In-depth semi structured interviews were conducted with seven lung cancer participants over Zoom and in person. The data were analyzed using manual hand coding. Compassion fatigue (CF) is a significant cause of nurse burnout (BO). Oncology nurses are particularly susceptible to CF because of the continual contact with terminally ill patients and recurrent experiences with patients’ death. A search of existing literature found no published studies that explicitly focused on interviewing oncology nurses to gain their expression of their lived experiences with CF while caring for terminally ill patients. This phenomenological qualitative study explored oncology nurses’ experiences dealing with and managing CF when caring for terminally ill patients. Rural healthcare has often lagged when compared to those in suburban areas and inner cities. Rural healthcare has often been less effective, lower in quality, and not as accessible. Access to healthcare has been a key factor in life quality and quantity for all.
