This report presents the population estimates for Oregon and its counties and incorporated cities for July 1, 2000, based on the April 1, 2000 census information. The ten tables in this report show current 2000 population estimates as well as historical data.

The report considers several factors that are likely to affect the school district's enrollments between the present and 2010, including the future number of births, net migrants, and the proportion of school-age children and youth enrolled in the public schools. This is the second report that forecasts future enrollments for the Portland Public Schools. The market area for this study consists of Northern Wasco County and Hood River County School Districts in Oregon, and White Salmon School District in Washington. Horizon Christian School, offering grades pre-kindergarten through 12, is located in the city of Hood River and its classrooms are located in rented spaces at three different sites throughout the city. The purpose of this report is to provide an analysis of the demographic factors affecting recent enrollment changes in Portland Public Schools. Toward this goal, the report discusses how trends in births, migration, and international migration have affected public school enrollments in Portland. This report reaches four main conclusions: * First and foremost, public school enrollments have declined in recent years primarily because there have been sizeable decreases in the number of students entering kindergarten and the early elementary school grades. Smaller numbers of entering students are, in turn, the result of substantial reductions in the number of births--reductions that …

This report provides a school Enrollment Forecast, including background demographic information and analysis, for the Eagle Point School District (Jackson County School District #9). Several factors that are likely to affect the District’s enrollment between 2000 and 2010 are considered and the geographical areas within the District (the cities of Eagle Point and Shady Cove, the unincorporated urban area of White City, and the rural unincorporated area) are examined. Oregon's population grew at an average annual rate of 1.81 percent during the 1990 to 1998 period. The total population increased by 425,000 during the eight-year period, reaching a population of 3,267,550 on July 1, 1998. Current annual rates of growth are above the U.S. national average of 1.04 percent.

Most of the way through the 1990s, the Oregon counties experiencing the fastest average growth rates are located along the 1-5 corridor and in central Oregon. Using 1990 U.S. Census data, this report has documented the characteristics of people moving to and from Oregon between 1985 and 1990. Substantial migration occurred during this time with about 404,000 people moving to Oregon and about 281,000 people leaving Oregon. Approximately one half of the people moving to Oregon came from California and Washington and about 60% of the people leaving Oregon moved to these two states. Differentials were found in the characteristics of in- and out-migrants. In particular, in-migrants were more likely to be below poverty, 65 years of age and older, and have difficulty speaking English than …

Population estimates for 1992 show that Multnomah County (605,000) continues to have substantially more people than any other Oregon county. Washington County is the second most populous county (340,000}; Clackamas County (294,500) has surpassed Lane County (293,700) for the third most populous county. In 1991, Lane County had 2,200 more persons than Clackamas County (290,900 vs. 288,700). At the other end of the population spectrum, six counties have fewer than 8,000 people. Oregon Population Estimates and Reports

This report contains the estimates for each of the thirty-six counties and the 240 incorporated cities of Oregon from 1975-1986.

The estimates are based on data such as births, deaths, school enrollment, housing, number of privately owned passenger vehicles, income tax returns, voter registration, and other data which are sensitive to population movement.

The methods used to develop the estimates have been tested over a period of years by this agency, agencies in other states, and by the United States Bureau of the Census. These methods produce the most reliable population estimates that can be made.
