Metropolitan Growth And The Local Role In Surface Water Resource Protection In The Lake Erie Basin, Wendy A. Kellogg

Local governments can play an important role in protecting surface water resources through their compliance with federal and state regulations and through their own land use planning and management practices. Despite 30 years of water quality initiatives in the Lake Erie basin, nonpoint source runoff from urban and urbanizing lands remains a problem. Loss of riparian corridor integrity is increasing as urban areas in the Lake Erie basin experience areal growth. The use and management of land, predominantly a local responsibility, directly affects surface water resources. Democratic Excess In The Use Of Zoning Referenda, Karin M. Mika, Aaron J. Reber, )
Law Faculty Articles and Essays
This article argues that while mandatory referenda may be legal, it is an unnecessary step that thwarts zoning legislation. The article further argues that the Supreme Court's conclusion in Eastlake v. Forest City Enterprises, Inc. is not a realistic vision of the zoning process. Rather the previous standards of Euclid v. Ambler Realty Co. and Moore v. East Cleveland are sufficient to ensure an efficient process of municipal management.

In recent years, small-business lending has been discussed widely among the commercial banking community, a reflection of both the growing relative importance of small businesses to the U.S. economy and the fact that large companies have developed the ability to access capital markets directly for debt and equity financing. Although their market share in small-business lending has been eroded in recent years by competition from depository and non-depository financial institutions, commercial banks remain the most frequently used source of financing for small businesses. Arresting and reversing the condition of urban distress in America's cities represents one of the most challenging and perplexing problems confronting policy-makers. Indeed, urban distress in American cities has proved to be a stubborn and largely intractable phenomenon during the past two decades. Nevertheless, a number of cities that were experiencing distress at the beginning of the 1980s are now being acclaimed as 'urban success stories' or 'revitalised' cities. We evaluate the performance, between 1980 and 1990, of these supposedly 'revitalised' cities on objective indicators of the economic well-being of their residents and compare their performance to that other cities …

Burt W. Griffin has been a judge of the Common Pleas Court of Cuyahoga County, Ohio since January 3, 1975. From 1966 to 1975, he served as a legal aid lawyer in various capacities including Executive Director of the Cleveland Legal Aid Society and National Director of the Legal Services Program, U.S. Office of Economic opportunity. He was Assistant Counsel to the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy during 1964. Judge Griffin has been a life-long resident of Greater Cleveland. He was born in Cleveland's Hough section in 1932, lived in the Shaker Square area of Cleveland from …
