My research delves into the anti-Mexican immigrant rhetoric spread throughout the United States under Donald Trump’s presidency by himself, mainstream media news outlet Fox News, and the U.S. government. Furthermore, examining the social identity of ethnic Mexicans in the United States in response to and as a consequence of the negative rhetoric. This thesis analyzes discourse including the harmful rhetoric and its impact on policy formulation, public perception, and the lived experiences of Mexican immigrants and ethnic Mexican communities. By looking at existing discourse, this research provides a critical discourse analysis of political speeches, media coverage, and ethnic Mexican testimonios. …

Exploring The Factors That Influence Female Offending In The U.S. And Mexico, Dana Villasenor

Hollywood has painted a picture of the criminal woman as a sexy, sneaky, and often psychotic female fatale. This is because men run Hollywood. Much like movies, research on why women offend had historically focused on men as their stellar. However, towards the turn of the century and with the disproportionate rise in female incarceration, literature caught up to the fact that women and men do not experience the same socialization, standards, or reality and, therefore, have different reasons for and ways of offending. Justice Involvement During Covid-19 And The Possibility Of Transitional Justice, Rachel A. Ponder

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced numerous unprecedented political, social, and economic challenges that resulted in unprecedented responses by policy makers. As result, existing inequalities and injustices rooted in a dense history of structural and institutional violence were uncovered and exacerbated. As of June 2021, at least 398,627 people in prison tested positive for COVID-19 and at least 2,715 had died (The Marshall Project 2021). In the United States, the inmate population is disproportionately made up of poor, people of color. This is a pattern that is rooted in the country’s long history of racism and white supremacy. Law and policy on prostitution are being debated and changed in many countries around the world. A number of countries have changed their laws and policies on prostitution in the last seven years (the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand, and South Korea), and several more governments have proposed change in their prostitution laws (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ghana, Russian Federation). The different state approaches to prostitution – prohibition, regulation, decriminalization, and abolition – will be defined and described. Central to the debate on law and policy on prostitution is the relationship between sex trafficking and prostitution. All four of these …
