In the current era of anthropogenic climate change, Quechua farmers in the Peruvian Andes are some of the most impacted by, yet some of the lowest contributors to global warming. Dominant Western systems alone have proven insufficient in tackling the climate crisis, and there have been increasing efforts to elevate and center Indigenous voices and epistemologies when addressing climate change. An estimated 49% of the indigenous population of Latin America has migrated to cities in the past 50 years. In Peru, over 600,000 native Quechua speakers migrated to cities due solely to the terrorist conflicts of the 1980s. Many of these immigrants came from small towns with little to no infrastructure in terms of roads, schools, and hospitals or access to western biomedicine. In this study, semi-formal qualitative interviews were used to investigate whether migration from a small rural community to a city, specifically among the Queros people of Southern Peru, affected the use of traditional medicine and biomedicine. A 2015 World Bank Study found that 40 percent of Kampala population lives in informal settlements in or or around wetland, and 50 percent of Kampala’s wetland cover has disappeared in the past 20 years (World Bank, 2015). Parental death is one of the most traumatic events that can occur in childhood (Haine, 2006). With around 28,000 individual participants, Chi Alpha is a diverse network of Christian students on U.S. college campuses. By regularly meeting in groups and collectively reaching out to the community, students develop their faith and build lasting relationships.

Faith development is an integral part of Chi Alpha students’ lives. Yet, because community is an important aspect in faith development, studying abroad can cause challenges. Students expressed missing accessible Christian peer support and mentorship while abroad. They further expressed disconnection from their faith and felt their spirituality had declined while studying abroad.
