Impressions Of Professional Women As A Function Of Clothing Style And Job Title, Tanya Kay Wimberley

The piirpose of the present study was to examine the relationship of Job Title (Sales Manager, Salesperson) with Clothing Style (Short Skirt, Long Skirt, Pants) on perceptions of power. Seventy-eight participants completed the Perception of Power scale. The Perception of Power scale is a questionnaire that contains six measures of interpersonal power. The subscales were also added for an overall measure of power. Included with the questionnaire was a picture of a female model in one of three styles of business suit, applying for one of two jobs, for a total of six conditions. This report examines many recent cultural and family unit changes that have affected the home-school relationship. It addresses reasons for implementing parental involvement, the different programs available and assessment procedures. There are several key components in a parental involvement program: promoting parents as educators, training teachers to cooperate with families, promoting cooperation among families, involving the larger community and presenting family learning activities. These aspects have shown significant benefits to school staff members, students, and parents. The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, ad survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was undertaken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment - to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position. That students are role-oriented while many schools are still goal-oriented has been demonstrated in this project. Many educators (Goldhammer & Heilman, 1973; Glasser, 1970; Goodlad, 1975; Hansen, 1975; Mink, 1975; and Tyler, 1972) emphasize the importance of students finding their identity and a sense of belongingness. Hoyt (1974), Marland (1971) (1972), and Goldhammer et. al. (1973) see work as an important element in helping youth find a meaningful role for himself in his community.
