Project Silverlight: Community Based And Participant-Led Initiatives To Increase Civic Engagement Among Older Adults, Paulin T. Straughan, William Tov, Wensi Lim, Rachel Ngu, Yan Er Tan, Mindy Eiko Tadai

Project Silverlight was a year-long project aimed at redefining social engagement and participation of older adults in the community. In this report, we share our findings from the project and key recommendations to community partners who are looking to adopt a similar model of participant-led programs. Our study found that by engaging student volunteers as a key partner in this initiative, participants showed a significant improvement in their perceptions of youth, and that participants derived a great sense of satisfaction from being involved in the curation of their activities.

The purpose of this study is to better understand the challenges animal welfare organizations face around access to veterinary care and how these challenges impact the animals in their care. The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement (AAWA) and Program for Pet Health Equity (PPHE) at the University of Tennessee joined forces to conduct a survey of shelters and rescues at the national level. This study grew out of a project completed for the California Access to Care Working Group (CACWG) by PPHE that explored challenges experienced by animal shelters in California due to inequitable access to veterinary care. This report presents findings from a pilot survey conducted among undergraduate and graduate students (N = 410) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln about students’ perspectives on technology usage, consumption, and sustainability in dairy production systems. An interdisciplinary research team developed the survey instrument and report. The main purpose of this pilot study was to create and administer survey items to support further research on experiential education and outreach opportunities related to robotics in small-scale dairy production and rural economic development. Nixyáawii Watikš is a proposed multi-use path connecting the City of Pendleton, Oregon, to Mission, a community hub containing tribal institutions and new mixed-use developments in the heart of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. In collaboration with the Tribal Planning Office of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), the student team conducted research and explored possible trail route options based on physical constraints, stakeholder interests, community priorities, and travel needs. This project aims to propose one recommended trail solution that improves accessibility, connectivity, transportation options, and safety for all trail users.

Transforming the Volunteer Experience in the Social Service Sector is the first analysis report of its kind that focuses on investigating and enhancing volunteerism in Singapore. Through the perspectives of volunteers and volunteer managers via surveys and in-depth interviews, this report reveals a framework depicting five key features that contribute towards a quality volunteering experience. The study also makes recommendations on the actionable steps and strategies that Social Service Agencies can adopt to engage their volunteers more strategically, so that they can play a more significant role in delivering enhanced quality services to service users.

This project aims to educate participants about health inequities and the Latinx community, particularly first and second generation immigrants. Collectivism And Individualism In Jordanian Young Adults And Older Adults, Zuha Zubair

The focus of this study is to explore how Jordanians experience and conceptualize collectivism and individualism and how there are generational differences in identification with said constructs. There were 8 interviews conducted, 4 with young adults ages 21 to 24, and 4 interviews conducted with adults above the age of 50. Questionnaires were administered at the University of Jordan, and sixteen completed questionnaires were collected from bachelors students. All interviews were conducted in-person. Comparative analysis was utilized for questionnaire data. Questionnaire results indicate participants most strongly align with horizontal individualism. For decades police and prosecutors have controlled the public narrative about criminal law. The news landscape features salacious stories of violent crimes while ignoring the more mundane but far more prevalent minor cases that clog the court dockets. Defenders, faced with overwhelming caseloads and fear that speaking out may harm their clients, have largely ceded the opportunity to offer a counternarrative based on what they see every day. Defenders tell each other about overuse of pretrial detention, intensive pressure to plead guilty, overzealous prosecutors, cycles of violence, and rampant constitutional violations—all of which inflict severe harm on defendants and their …
