Given the high emotional toll of nonprofit work, burnout, secondary trauma, and compassion fatigue are prevalent among employees. This study examines how these phenomena manifest in individuals' everyday lives. Drawing on in-depth interviews with eleven nonprofit workers in the South-Central United States, the findings reveal three primary themes: the consequences of emotional labor, frustration with the system, and supportive strategies. Overall, participants described a tension between finding deep purpose and meaning in their work and experiencing an emotional burden that shapes how they engage with the world. This study examines the role of commuting stress on job satisfaction, with burnout as a mediating variable. Data were collected from 113 commuting employees in urban areas, primarily within Greater Jakarta, an area known for severe traffic congestion, using a quantitative approach. Participants completed three validated questionnaires: the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) for job satisfaction, the Multimodal Commuting Stress Scale (MCSS) for commuting stress, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for burnout. Previous research has not adequately addressed the phenomenon of burnout, particularly in California. This study took a mixed-methods approach to determine the scope of, contributing factors to, and coping strategies for burnout among mental health professionals in Northern California. This preliminary study explored effective interprofessional collaboration’s role on social worker burnout within a single Veterans Affairs medical center. Twenty-one social workers completed a survey to collect data on burnout, effective interprofessional collaboration components, and demographic characteristics. On average, social workers reported moderately low burnout levels. As collective ownership of goals increased, burnout decreased. Similarly, as reflection on interprofessional team processes increased, burnout decreased. Future research would benefit from a large, randomly-sampled group of social work participants across multiple sectors to develop implications for social work education.
