The purpose of this study was to build on previous descriptive research on grandparents' experiences of stress in raising their grandchildren. The research method used was a qualitative approach. The goal in utilizing a qualitative approach lay in a desire to understand the unique stress experience of grandfathers and grandmothers in raising their grandchildren, as they live it and feel it.

This study looked at the potential reentry-aged women employed by the San Bernardino County Department of Children's Service. It identified the characteristics, motivations, needs and barriers of the reentry age female student. This study explored the reasons why some SBCDCS reentry-aged workers choose to further their education, while others do not.

The conclusions extracted from this research project show that little research has been done on social issues presented by the African immigrant to America. Those charged with public welfare research and intervention must develop tools and strategies necessary to assess the needs of African immigrants, to facilitate their improved adjustment to their environment. African immigrants in the United States can benefit from similar research designs and resources accorded to the Latino and Asian populations.

This study was designed to differentiate the significant demographic and familial factors found in families when reunification is successful versus when reunification fails in cases of child removal due to physical abuse and domestic violence. The purpose of this study was to identify which, if any of these factors, lead to successful reunification. Content analysis of adjudicated cases of child abuse in San Bernardino County was used to transform qualitative information into quantitative data.

The study investigated the relationship between San Bernardino County Department of Adult Protective Services (APS) client refusal of services and the outcome of their cases. A data extraction tool was used to collect demographic information about the APS clients and their perpetrators, types and number of contacts made by the APS worker, types of abuse, reasons for refusal, and outcomes from closed APS cases for the San Bernardino, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga regions.

Homelessness affects the lives of an increasing number of children in Dublin. Research by Focus Ireland indicated that 1,262 children were living with their parent(s) in Bed and Breakfast (B&B) emergency accommodation in 1999 (Houghton & Hickey, 2000). More recent figures from the Northern Area Health Board (NAHB) Homeless Service show that 20% of first time referrals to emergency accommodation in the past year were families with 827 children. The purpose of this guide is to provide you with basic information to help Wisconsin’s rural communities prepare to plan for agriculture. The guide was developed in response to the Comprehensive Planning Law passed under the 1999-2001 Wisconsin State Biennial Budget. This law requires that by January 1, 2010, all programs, actions, and decisions affecting land use must be consistent with the locally adopted comprehensive plan in order for the community to continue making land use related decisions. The law applies to cities, villages, towns, counties, and regional planning commissions.

It is becoming more common for practitioners to discuss advance directives, thereby affirming each person's right to participate in directing end-of-life care. However, little attention has been paid to models of end-of-life planning. This study, a secondary analysis of research completed in 18 La Crosse area health care organizations, explores the extent to which practitioners engage patients and surrogates in exploring values and goals while educating patients about advance directives. It also explores the communication process, including retrievability of directives. An issue for policy-makers and community organizations across Minnesota is the lack of knowledge about how to engage low-income families and people of color in community decision-making and community capacity building efforts. A culturally diverse research team interviewed forty-nine community leaders who had been identified as change agents, had struggled to become leaders, were perceived as mentors, and/or were viewed as cultural leaders. In Thought, Word, And Deed: Suicidal Behaviors Of Adjudicated Youth, Kevin Corcoran, Thomas Crofoot Graham

This study examines suicide ideation, plans, and attempts by youth in two juvenile justice settings: incarcerated youth (n=83) and youth with community service sentences (n=144). The incarcerated sample reported 51% suicide ideation while the community sample reported 22%. For both samples, suicide contemplators were quite likely (60-70%) to have a suicide plan, while about 35% reported a suicide attempt in the past 12 months. Contemplators were distinguishable from noncontemplators on scores for external problems of delinquency and aggression, internal problems of anxiety, depression, withdrawal and somatic complaints, general depression, and general health status. Governmental agencies have since implemented programs to protect children from abusers after the abuse has been reported and sufficiently proven.
