This project examines Holgate Lake. Despite its natural hazard characteristics, the Holgate Lake area has not been immune to development pressure. Holgate Lake is an intermittent water body that forms when groundwater levels rise. Historical accounts show that the lake has formed at many different times in the last century. Because the lake fluctuates with the groundwater level, it is not necessarily present from year to year. As the area has developed, more and more people built in the location of the natural lakebed when the water was not present. When the lake level returned in the 1960's flooding of …

A goal was to connect the concerns expressed by seniors and their hopes for the future of the area to other visions for Hollywood currently being developed.

The Aging in Hollywood Project provides a senior perspective on such issues as community design, transportation and access, neighborhood services, housing choices and community involvement. The Chinatown Senior Housing Committee, a group of concerned citizens and leaders, is exploring the possibility of building senior housing and a cultural community center in Chinatown. The project is intended to help revitalize Chinatown and provide needed services to Portland’s Asian community. To aid the Committee in achieving their goals, four Masters students in the Professional Planning Workshop at Portland State University completed a needs assessment of Chinese-American seniors in the Portland metropolitan area. This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Planning Workshop Group.

If this is true, why are there so many large areas of vacant land in the very heart of Portland? It is very likely that these vacant parcels of land are associated with the term "brownfields."

Brownfields are properties where expansion or development is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination on the site. This project will analyze the current workforce development programs and services provided by Community Based Organizations (CBBs), Community Development Corporations (CDCs), community colleges, and the Workforce Development Board (formerly TPIC) in Multnomah and Washington counties. Documentation of the gaps and/or redundancies in the provision of workforce development will be provided to the Workforce Development Network (WDN) based upon service provider interviews and research on national models in workforce development. This documentation will be provided in three forms: as a database; as a resource directory; and as an analysis of the gaps in the current system.

This plan proposes new park classifications for THPRD, adding new types of park and recreation facilities appropriate to station communities and adjusting existing classifications to address the needs of a more urban environment. Homelessness is a major problem in Portland. Many people here cannot afford housing of any kind. Although the total number of homeless people in the city is not known, an estimated 14,000 Multnomah County residents spent time in homeless shelters during some part of 1993.

From December 1994 through March 1995, the D2T2M consulting group took a serious look at the future of Civic Stadium and its position in the regional community. This study was prepared for the Portland Metropolitan Sports Authority.
