香港有多種別具特色的交通工具，其誕生多源於當時生活環境的需要。在供求平衡下自然衍生出五花八門的交通工具，用以上山、越嶺、過海，不一而足。隨著時代進步，交通工具亦有更替，如過海隧道尚未成熟時，市民須靠渡輪來往維港兩岸，海上交通非常發達；海底隧道和鐵路建成後，市民減少乘搭渡輪，海上交通種類減少，陸路運輸則漸趨多元化。故此，交通發展與市民生活息息相關，不同需求令各種交通工具相繼出現，同時亦因社會進步而逐漸轉型。

專題展覽

1953年聖誕夜石硤尾寮屋區的一場大火，成為政府開展公共房屋政策的契機。自此，一幢幢徙置大廈紛紛落成，遍佈港九各地。政府在1960年代推出了廉租屋，單位的空間較寬敞，居住環境較舒適。至1970年代，政府為公營房屋引入社區規劃元素，開始講求生活素質，屋邨內設有商場、休憩公園、醫療、交通、學校等配套設施，公屋更成功帶動香港人口向新市鎮遷移。而至2000年代興建的新型公屋，除了滿足居住上的需求外，還講求可持續發展，邨內設有環保設施，為居民帶入「綠色生活」的元素。

A Cracking Methodology To Assess Fracture And Fatigue Properties Of Asphalt Concrete Mixtures Using Overlay Tester, Victor M. Garcia

Several highway agencies have either implemented or considered implementing performance tests to predict the cracking potential of asphalt concrete (AC) mixtures in the laboratory setting. One such test, the Overlay Tester (OT) test, measures the number of cycles to failure of the AC specimens by simulating the opening and closing of the cracks induced by daily temperature variations and high tensile strain generated by the traffic load. The variability of the OT test results is expressed as a major concern in reliably characterizing the cracking potential of the AC mixes.

The United States-Mexico remittance corridor finds itself at a crossroads, exacerbated by an amalgam of factors including tapering migration levels, a more mature Mexican economy and higher levels of technological permeation. I identify the individual, governments and service providers as the three main actors in the United States - Mexico Remittance Corridor. In this white paper, we outline the federal legislative agenda of the American Library Association, crafted by members and operationalized by the Washington-based ALA Office of Government Relations, which lobbies on behalf of the Association. We discuss how policy is made in ALA, including the work of the Committee on Legislation. We then explain the federal legislative issues that are advanced by ALA through the Washington Office. These include: appropriations, privacy/surveillance, access to government information, copyright, school libraries, and telecommunications. In the aftermath of World War II, the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan followed Germany’s blueprint in fashioning a universal health coverage system. Comparisons to Germany’s welfare state during this same time period reveal markedly different social and mental health policy practices, as Germany’s Christian Democratic Union and Social Democratic Party cooperated toward progressive policies while the Liberal Democratic Party largely neglected social welfare expansion. The effect of these practices is reflected in budgetary provisions, institutionalization practices, and mental health epidemiology. This dissertation is conducted to examine the factors which contribute to the reporting of incidents of violence or aggression perpetrated by patients against health care providers in non-institutional health care settings. With a theoretical foundation grounded in community science, applying stress theory, broken windows theory and the theory of reasoned action, the following cross sectional study examines the contribution of characteristics of the healthcare provider, characteristics of the patient perpetrator and the form of violence to the providers' reporting or failing to report incidents. The movement to make policy more evidence-based is gaining increasing influence in the field of international development. I argue that, properly understood and executed, evidence-based policy has the promise to make development efforts more effective. However, if policy decisions are to be evidence-based, there must be tools available to policymakers that provide evidence in usable formats. In the 10 years since the invention of Facebook, social media sites have become an indispensable part of the marketing and communications strategy employed by a broad spectrum of organizations, including university athletic departments. Trafficking Smuggled Migrants: An Issue Of Vulnerability, Rachel A. Hews

This paper analyzes why the UN’s efforts against the sex trafficking of smuggled migrants, specifically regarding the Palermo and Smuggling Protocols, have been inadequate in preventing migrant smuggling. It concludes that the crime-based focus on prosecution overshadows prevention of the crime and protection of the victims, and that a human rights approach addressing the vulnerability of smuggled migrants would be more effective in reducing migrant smuggling long-term. Proposed solutions include decreasing both the “push” and “pull” factors of migration by ratifying existing legislation regarding basic human rights, implementing national policies that increase migrant rights in destination countries, and shifting further …

As a result of zero tolerance policies, a significant percentage of students who experience exclusions from schools also experience negative outcomes such as high dropout rates, academic failures, and encounters with juvenile justice agencies. While several researchers have found a relationship between unintended consequences of exclusions and juvenile delinquency, few have examined this phenomenon from the perspectives of juveniles who experienced exclusions. Guided by the framework of operant conditioning, the purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand how students experienced exclusions from school. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) to monitor adverse events resulting from pharmaceutical drug use. However, this system has limitations such as not allowing real-time data collection. To address these limitations, the FDA launched the Sentinel Initiative in 2008. This comparative case study was conducted to describe perceptions of investigating the efficacy of the Sentinel Initiative compared with the FAERS. Direct Care Workforce: The Shift Towards Nonmedical Services, Christopher Kelly

Past Publications

Purpose:A shift in the direct care workforce from aides trained to provide medical services to those trained only to provide nonmedicalservices impacts both providers and consumers of long-term care. Between 2013 and 2014, data from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the number of nursing, psychiatric, and home health aides (who providemedical services) has declined while the number of personal and home care aides (who provide nonmedical services) has increased. This study explores the potential reasons for these trends by comparing these two groups of aides, using data from the 2013 and 2014 American Community Survey (ACS).

Internal program reviews are conducted by the Academic Planning Council (APC) and are an integral part of UNO’s assessment and planning processes for the unit, college, and University. The review process is designed to monitor the quality and assist in the ongoing development of UNO's academic programs and units.

Every academic program offered at UNO will be reviewed at least once within a seven-year cycle. The reviews are conducted routinely and are coordinated with the review reports prepared for the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE).

There is a prevailing belief within the United States Department of Defense (DOD) that social media is a threat to national security, leading to restrictions in workplace use of social-media applications. However, instead of dismissing social media as a threat, leaders should be asking whether or not the information received via social media can be trusted, thus leveraging the information-sharing capabilities of social media. This article presents a theoretical case for quantifying social media trustworthiness by exploring the factors that influence trust in social media and proposing a trust framework to be used to quantify trustworthiness.

The purpose of this study was to construct a holistic education school evaluation tool using Montessori Erdkinder principles, and begin the validation process of examining the proposed tool. This study addresses a vital need in the holistic education community for a school evaluation tool. The tool construction process included using Erdkinder literature to justify the development of each item through the use of an item matrix, ultimately leading to the development of the 23 item formative Montessori Erdkinder School Evaluation Survey.
