This article summarizes the findings from a yearlong inquiry into the state of place-based initiatives, underscores the lessons learned, and develops implications for foundation practice.

Place-based approaches have matured in response to five decades of historical change. In more recent years, a new framework for such initiatives has emerged that views place as an open system where neighborhoods are aligned with larger areas and influenced by market forces and public policy. Consequently, place-based initiatives targeted to a specific neighborhood are only part of any solution.

This article is a case study of women’s advocacy funders and their network organization, the Women’s Funding Network (WFN). WFN developed in the context of alternative (targeted) private funding sources emerging in the 70s and 80s to support newly formed social action and identity groups, some of whom had been encouraged by federal programs before the Reagan era, but that in those years were also not receiving support from more traditional funders like the United Way and many foundations.

Using panel data of transit ridership and gasoline prices for ten selected U.S. urbanized areas over the time period of 2002 to 2011, this study analyzes the effect of gasoline prices on ridership of the four main transit modes—bus, light rail, heavy rail, and commuter rail—as well as their aggregate ridership. Improving upon past studies on the subject, this study accounts for endogeneity between the supply of services and ridership, and controls for a comprehensive list of factors that may potentially influence transit ridership. Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara masih dihadapkan dengan permasalahan gizi pada anak bawah dua tahun (baduta). Salah satu masalah gizi hingga saat ini adalah stunting. Anak dengan riwayat berat badan lahir rendah (BBLR) merupakan salah satu faktor yang potensial memengaruhi pertumbuhan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji risiko riwayat berat badan lahir dengan kejadian stunting pada anak baduta. Desain penelitian adalah potong lintang. Populasi penelitian ini merupakan ibu-ibu yang memiliki anak baduta dan besar sampel sejumlah 117 terdiri dari anak baduta. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan selama tiga bulan pada bulan September – November 2014. Kategori BBLR jika riwayat berat badan lahir < 2.500 gram. Analisis data bivariat menggunakan uji kai kuadrat dan data multivariat menggunakan uji regresi logistik. Hasil analisis bivariat menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara riwayat status BBLR (nilai p = 0,015) dengan stunting pada anak baduta. Berdasarkan hasil analisis multivariat, diperoleh bahwa BBLR merupakan faktor risiko yang paling dominan berhubungan dengan kejadian stunting. Anak dengan BBLR memiliki risiko 5,87 kali untuk mengalami stunting. Riwayat BBLR memiliki peranan penting dalam kejadian stunting anak baduta di wilayah Puskesmas Sungai Karias, Hulu Sungai Utara. North Hulu Sungai District is still facing nutrition problems among children under two years old. One of nutrition problems up to now is stunting. Child with low birthweight (LBW) record is one of potential factors influencing the growth of a child. This study aimed to assess any risk of LBW records with stunting incidence among children under two years old. This study used cross-sectional design. The population was mothers having children under two years old and samples amounted to 117 consisted of children under two years old. This study was conducted within three months on September – November 2014. Category of LBW was if birth weight records < 2,500 gram. Bivariate data analysis used chi-square test and multivariate data analysis used logistic regression test. The result of bivariate analysis showed a significant relation between LBW status records (p value = 0.015) with stunting incidence among children under two years old. Based on the result of multivariate analysis, LBW was the most dominating risk factor related to stunting incidence. Children with LBW had 5.87 times risk of suffering from stunting. LBW records take an important role in stunting incidence among children under two years old around Sungai Karias Primary Health Care area in North Hulu Sungai.

Sebanyak 10,3% kematian tidak langsung pada ibu disebabkan kehamilan usia remaja (< 20 tahun). Di Kabupaten Tanah Datar, masih terjadi peningkatan kehamilan usia remaja dalam tiga tahun terakhir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran tenaga kesehatan, dukungan keluarga, dan pengetahuan remaja dengan kehamilan usia remaja di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Singgalang, Kabupaten Tanah Datar tahun 2014. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei – Juni 2014 menggunakan desain potong lintang. Populasi adalah seluruh remaja putri berusia < 20 tahun yang telah menikah berjumlah 215 orang. Sampel berjumlah 68 orang dan pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara proporsional di delapan jorong/desa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara menggunakan kuesioner. Kemudian, analisis bivariat dilakukan dengan uji kai kuadrat dan analisis multivariat dengan uji regresi logistik ganda. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan sebanyak 55,9% responden hamil di usia remaja. Sebanyak 52,9% responden kurang merasakan peran dari tenaga kesehatan, 66,2% kurang mendapat dukungan keluarga, dan 58,8% memiliki pengetahuan rendah. Didapatkan hubungan peran tenaga kesehatan (nilai p = 0,032), dukungan keluarga (nilai p = 0,025), dan tingkat pengetahuan (nilai p = 0,002) dengan kehamilan usia remaja. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa tenaga kesehatan, keluarga dan tingkat pengetahuan berperan dalam kehamilan remaja. Tenaga kesehatan perlu memberikan penyuluhan mengenai risiko kehamilan remaja kepada remaja serta keluarga. Worth 10.3% of indirect maternal death is due to teenage pregnancy (< 20 years old). In Tanah Datar District, the increase of teenage pregnancy has occured in the last three years. This study aimed to determine health worker's role, family's support and teenagers' knowledge with teenage pregnancy in work area of Singgalang Primary Health Care, Tanah Datar District in 2014. This study was conducted on May – June 2014 using cross-sectional design. Population was 215 married teenage girls < 20 years old. A total of sample was 68 selected proportionally in eight villages. Data were collected through interview using questionnaire. Then bivariate analysis was conducted using chi-square test and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression test. Results of study found 55.9% of respondents were pregnant in teen age. Respondents worth 52.9% got less health worker’s role, 66.2% got less family’s support and 58.8% had low level of knowledge. There was a relation found between health worker’s role (p value = 0.032), family’s support (p value = 0.025) and knowledge level (p value = 0.002) with teenage pregnancy. In conclusion, health workers, family and knowledge level play a role in teenage pregnancy. Health workers need to provide counseling concerning teenage pregnancy risks for both teenagers and families.

Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) has been used as a sacrificial polymer in the fabrication of battery separators and can be employed in 0D–3D Vaporization of a Sacrificial Component (VaSC) fabrication. In this study, 1 wt% PLA/Fe2O3, PLA/CuO and PLA/Bi2O3 composites are prepared by solvent evaporation casting. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images indicate that the embedded nanoparticles are well dispersed in the polymer matrix and X-ray diffraction (XRD) verifies the crystallinity of these Metal Oxides (MOs). This study reports an implementation of procedures that multivariate methodology make available to assess the relative importance of attributes of service offerings to work commuters. Adaptive choice conjoint analysis was used to derive the importance weights of attributes in available service offering to a commuter sample. A clustering procedure was then used to define homogeneous sub-groups of the sample and the combination of demographic differences that discriminate clusters. Results of this assessment are used to indicate how a market in workcommuting can be segmented on the basis of user indications of the importance of attributes of service offerings.

Since 2009, human rights organizations have noted an almost fifty-percent decrease of North Korean refugees reaching freedom in South Korea, when for so many years there was a steady increase. This capstone paper evaluated the decline by taking two perspectives of research, one perspective being physical terrain changes or modifications prohibiting the flow of refugees and a second approach of examining the lifestyle demographics of the refugees who have successfully crossed the North Korean border. This brief examines mental health correlating with a parent's absence during a military deployment. The findings show that adolescents were affected by a military parent being absent from significant events, and that they would benefit from programs that offer pre and post-deployment briefings. In the future, research should investigate how contact during military deployment affects the service member and their family.
