Gender inequality affects many women in the workplace creating a wage gap. If found, a solution to this problem could dismantle barriers and close the gap. The extent to which women are aware of the glass ceiling and where to find help was studied through an online survey. One hundred and thirty eight women from the public, non-profit and private sectors completed the six-question survey. The results show that women in the non-profit sector are more likely to know of the glass ceiling but also are more likely not to know where to find help when compared to the other …

Dehumanization is a complex, relational and subjective phenomenon. Studies on it primarily focus on how it enables abuse in the midst of conflict, or how it shapes perceptions of others. Scholars, however, have not deconstructed it into components. The current article breaks down dehumanization into three components: elements, characteristics, and dimensions. It is hoped that the discussion of the connection between the three can encourage additional discussions on how each of the components contributes to dehumanization and how that can help towards undermining it. The objectives of ESD are reflected in the objects of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994 (FRMA), Section 3, and the draft Aquatic Resources Management Bill 2013 (ARMB), Clause 9, which will replace the FRMA once enacted.

The initial purpose of this capstone was to establish a baseline for the occurrence of the top five foodbome illness risk factors, to write a report on the baseline findings and to develop a plan to repeat this study at least once every 60 months for the Portland Environmental Health & Safety Program. It soon became clear, however, that the scope was too broad. An extensive effort was required to integrate national methodology and comparability principles with the State and local restaurant inspection structure. The purpose of this study was to examine international camp professionals' perceptions of the importance and performance of Eccles and Gootman's (2002) Eight Features that Maximize Positive Youth Development. Members of the International Camping Fellowship, ages 18 and older and of different demographic backgrounds, were asked for their perceived importance and performance ratings of the eight features on a five point Likert scale. The data were used to create importance-performance matrices using Martilla and James' (1977) Importance-Performance Analysis technique in order to create visual depictions of the recorded perceptions. What begins as a study of temporalities in St. Louis' architecture condenses first into a presentation of the relationships within the city which reveal conflations of different scales, durations, and structures of time as a synthesized, annotated drawing. The study then focuses on four projective drawings exploring the production of diachronic time in a megastructure connected into St. Louis. Dating Violence occurs in many forms and can be committed by anyone (Wekerle & Wolfe, 1999). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are four core types of intimate partner violence: physical violence, sexual violence, threats of physical or sexual violence, and psychological/emotional violence. This study examines the relationship between current parental status and psychological aggression toward a partner. Data are drawn from the International Dating Violence Study collected from more than 14,000 students in 68 universities in over 30 countries worldwide (Straus, International Dating Violence Study, 2001-2006, 2011). Dating Violence is the perpetration of violence within a dating relationship. Negative experiences in childhood have been linked to dating violence through much research. This is often explained by Socialization theory (Bandura, 1971) which posits that observing and experiencing a pattern of behavior during childhood can lead to the adoption of that pattern of behavior as adults. Drawing from this theory, individuals who experience positive parenting in childhood learn and develop a supportive relationship style and, therefore, should commit violence against a dating partner as adults with less frequency. It also offers a possible intervention that could be implemented in New York City. The intervention involves an event in which the women are interviewed for feedback and information is provided. Introduction: The extraordinarily high incidence of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa led to the search for cofactor infections that could explain the high rates of transmission in the region. Genital inflammation and lesions caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) were a probable mechanism, and numerous observational studies indicated several STI cofactors. Nine out of the ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs), however, failed to demonstrate that treating STIs could lower HIV incidence. We evaluate all 10 trials to determine if their design permits the conclusion, widely believed, that STI treatment is ineffective in reducing HIV incidence.

The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is the central form of chemical regulation existent in the United States today, yet scientists are often unaware or uncertain of its provisions. Violations of TSCA by unknowing chemists set industry and government unnecessarily at odds. A lecture on TSCA was developed for undergraduate students that uses the concept of green chemistry to promote interest and incentivize learning. Many adolescent girls—the poorest girls in the poorest communities—already live in an “emergency.” Humanitarian crises only amplify the call on their coping and caring capacities, while exacerbating their vulnerabilities. The frequency and intensity of emergencies, including natural disasters, conflicts, and infectious disease outbreaks such as Ebola, appear to be growing.¹ These emergencies threaten entire communities and whole countries, often with global implications.
