The Poverty Line project explores a simple question: What does it mean to be poor? Through photos of daily amounts of food that could be bought if one’s income lies at the poverty line, the project creates a visual impact on the choices faced by a poor person in a country.

The introduction of this work analyzes the types and evolution of cartel IAFVs in Mexico. To this analysis can be added “vehicle number 24” in the picture gallery, which highlights fixed 50 cal. sniper rifles and machine guns found in or on various vehicles seized from the cartels. These represent multiple 50 cal. sniper rifles and heavy machine guns on fixed mounts inside vehicles and, in one instance, on the back of a vehicle with armored gun shield protection. From November 2011 through December 2012, 181 face-to-face trainings and 25 train-the-trainer events were offered to individuals as part of the Childcare and Youth training and Technical Assistance Project (CYTTAP) across 13 states. The trainings include Better Kid Care (face-to-face sessions that cover a wide range of topics from arts and math to challenging behaviors and physical activity); I Am Moving, I Am Learning (about preventing childhood obesity); and Rock Solid Foundations (on supporting young children's social and emotional growth and development). Positive ratings and significant change were the results across all projects.

Children’s play needs to be encouraged as an essential part of their healthy development. A wide variety of play experiences is necessary to develop a complex and integrated brain.

Daily experiences in natural environments can have immediate and long-lasting benefits for children. Increased physical activity is associated with decreases in depression and anxiety and increases in levels of concentration. It also is a key strategy in addressing childhood obesity.

Research overwhelmingly supports the need for children to experience natural environments often and in a variety of ways. For many reasons, children are spending increasing amounts of time inside the house watching television and playing video games. This current study extends our understanding of international illicit drug trafficking of cocaine and heroin. Much of the research examining drug trafficking between countries has been done at the regional level. Although these two drugs are only produced within a small number of countries, they end up being used all over the world. This research provides a global portrait of the architecture of cocaine and heroin trade and tests whether crime opportunity theory can account for the relative position of transhipment nations. This study focused on the effects of drone attacks on the Al Qa ̕ida organization because the former CIA director, Leon Panetta, believed that this is the only tool that allows the United States to tackle or try to disrupt the leadership of Al Qa ̕ida. The use of drones as a tool to moderate situations and conduct covert operations by the CIA and U.S. military is a topic of debate and controversy. Drones are invaluable in regards to maintaining a presence in areas that can be extremely dangerous for service members or other individuals.

On September 12, 2012 the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a complaint in the Federal District Court for Oregon asserting that the City of Portland has engaged in a pattern and practice of unnecessary or excessive force against persons experiencing a mental health crisis. This survey is the result of a settlement agreement between Portland’s City Council and the DOJ which specified the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) develop a means of assessing public perceptions.

This project was intended to provide relevant curriculum on bicycle and pedestrian transportation that can be used by planning and engineering faculty to integrate these topics into their course offerings. We developed a module-based curriculum for bicycle and pedestrian planning and design that is current, relevant to practice, and adaptable for use in a variety of course offerings in engineering and planning departments. We also procured 33 new publications for the Millar Library to support coursework on this topic. The purpose of this study is to evaluate why current treatment goals for patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) are not being achieved despite a large body of evidence supporting regionalized ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) systems. An online survey tool,developed by the research project team, was used to poll the Critical Access Hospitals in Nebraska in order to understand delay factors and other barriers to executing a STEMI system in a rural area. Environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs) became very prominent after the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 as vibrant social movements. The Trade Related Intellectual Property Agreement (TRIPS) has had a profound effect on industrialization and innovation, as well as access to medicines in cases of public health crisis such as HIV/AIDS. However, compliance with TRIPS has varied in developing countries, despite heightened international pressure. For instance, Brazil has pursued a coherent approach to its HIV/AIDS health crisis, while India has failed to take care of its HIV patients despite late compliance with the TRIPS agreement and the presence of business firms that produce the generic medicines for HIV/AIDS. During the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster failures in communications and information sharing occurred among public safety agencies. These communication problems led to the loss of lives, the destruction of property, and the delay of timely medical assistance. This was a qualitative study of deliberation and participation in a tribal government setting. The results of this study identified high levels of deliberation and participation with a need to focus on improving the aspect of showing respect towards others. Improving deliberation can result in a more networked community, identification of a greater number of solutions, and greater acceptance of the solution selected.

A phenomenological study using Nonaka and Takeuchi’s socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization (SECI) model explored the organized, continual method of tacit-to-explicit knowledge theory for organizational knowledge creation. Twenty participants shared their lived experiences in semi-structured interviews. Ten primary themes emerged, with results indicating the foundation for supporting the knowledge sharing process.
