Labour-Management Relations Within The Fire Service: Building Trust And Respect, John Dehooge

This paper examines the conditions and characteristics for establishing and maintaining a successful labour-management relationship between fire chiefs and association presidents based on a survey and interview with a fire chief and association president from the Waterloo Fire Department (WFD). The findings reveal that the functional and effective labour-management relationship in Waterloo is characterized by shared organizational and relational values, a strong relationship with other staff members and the council the fire chief reports to, and mutual trust and respect.

This analysis provides an overview of recent legal developments in managed care case law. Three types of cases are reviewed: claims brought by managed care enrollees against managed care companies and health plans; cases related either directly or indirectly to managed care and brought by both beneficiaries and managed care organizations against state Medicaid agencies and other public agencies engaged in the purchase of managed care; and cases brought by individual health professionals against managed care organizations.

For the past few decades, criminologists have evaluated the success of treatment programs as the primary strategy to identify the best ways to lower offender recidivism. In doing so, they have repeatedly overlooked staff burnout as a potential barrier to rehabilitation. Because past research in human service agencies in general and prisons in particular has found organizational and administrative shortcomings to have the greatest impact on job strain and discomfort, this exploratory study examined the relationship between administrative support and the burnout of prison treatment staff. Real-Time Travel Time Estimation Using Macroscopic Traffic Flow Models, Pushkin Kachroo, Kaan Ozbay, Antoine G. Hobeika

This paper presents the estimation of travel time on highways based on macroscopic modelling. The focus is on real-time values as compared to average or static values. The macroscopic models are used for distributed and time/space lumped settings and corresponding travel time estimation functions and algorithms are developed. The implications of these algorithms for the implementation of various incident management and traffic control strategies are also discussed.

The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

We consider a container terminal discharging containers from a ship and locating them in the terminal yard. Each container has a number of potential locations in the yard where it can be stored. Containers are moved from the ship to the yard using a fleet of vehicles, each of which can carry one container at a time. The problem is to assign each container to a yard location and dispatch vehicles to the containers so as to minimize the time it takes to download all the containers from the ship. The demining group were clearing an 80km stretch of road using mine-dog teams and manual demining methods. They began work in November 1999. Work was suspended during the period of National floods, then restarted. They had cleared “approximately 43km” at the time of the accident. During the clearance task the demining team had found “1 UXO, 377 SAA of AKM” and 1724 pieces of metal.

Abstract This capstone project involved an alumni assessment of the Master of Public Administration Program offered by the Center For Public Service at Seton Hall University. Questionnaires were mailed to over 500 alumni and approximately 23.4% were returned. The responses from the alumni indicate that the MP A Program has met its mission and successfully prepared its students for their careers. Although not the focus of the literature review, the Center's MHA program is also assessed.

The mine accident happened at 10:00 hrs on the 3rd July 2001 while the [Demining group] were conducting manual clearance operations at minefield GY002. The deminer had a signal when using his mine detector which he investigated with a prodder and then excavated using a trowel. After exposing the item that had given the signal the deminer removed it from the ground using his right hand. The item exploded.

Since the mid-1990s, Botswana has pursued a policy of telecommunications liberalisation. This article, based on fieldwork conducted in Botswana in the summer of 2000, analyzes several notable aspects of the process of reform and denotes those worthy of emulation by other African states. The participation and protection of domestic telecommunication users, transparency in decision-making, the creation of an independent regulatory agency, and the introduction of competition in the form of private cellular service providers are among those policy features that are recommended for replication.
