The Antipersonnel Mine Neutralization Device (APMINUD) is a mechanical system for safely detonating Antipersonnel mines as part of a peace time mine clearance operation. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a shielded, all terrain vehicle with hydraulic crane. The system would be used to neutralize previously marked AP mines by detonating them one at a time.

The plunger inside the APMINUD is designed to strike the ground when released by the operator. An expendable foot on the plunger applies approximately two tons of impact force over a 10" diameter area when released. The impact force pushes the …

It is unrealistic to presume that churches and other private charities can fill the void resulting from welfare reform (Sider,1995; Conniff, 1997); yet there are ways to structure an effective church- and community-based continuum of care that will help to do so. In this article African-American churches are viewed as major players. An explanation of the systems theory of isomorphic replication provides a key to understanding the success of this collaborative model, which addresses issues facing communities while building on their strengths and assets and reckoning with the challenges of working collaboratively. This paper examines the implications of Hong Kong's reunification with China oncross-strait relationship between mainland China and Taiwan. It begins with adiscussion of the international security situation in the region and the increasingimportance of the People's Republic of China on regional security. The paper thenaddresses the political and economic consequences of the sovereignty change overHong Kong on regional security, identifying the added strength to China on the onehand, and the Special Administrative Region's moderating influences on the other.Finally, it evaluates possible changes of the Beijing government's Taiwan policy. Worker Participation And Firm Performance : Evidence From Germany And Britain, John T. Addison, W. Stanley Siebert, Joachim Wagner, Xiangdong Wei

Centre for Public Policy Studies : CPPS Working Paper Series

This paper examines the Freeman-Lazear works council/worker involvement model against the empirical backdrop of two different industrial relations systems: the British voluntaristic system, and the German system of mandatory works councils. We find that in nonunion British firms worker involvement increases economic performance, but in the union firms there are negative effects. The implication is that local distributive conflict can cause the wrong level of worker involvement to be chosen, as predicted by the model. ln Germany, where centralized collective bargaining reduces local distributive conflict, we find that a mandate can be advantageous, again as predicted by the model.
