This dissertation looks at the types and main sources of marine pollution in Kenya, the existing national regulations and their comparison with the international legislation, and the damage that the Kenyan marine environment has sustained from accidental oil spills. A review was undertaken at the present curriculum together with its historical developments. The dissertation serves to highlight the need to have a proper safety system within the Saudi Coast Guard organisation (SCG), the agency within the Ministry of the Interior, whose main task is to ensure safety at sea, enforcement of laws in the territorial waters of the Kingdom, rescue at sea and supervision and control of fishing and excursion vessels. The dissertation focuses on the legal and institutional framework governing inland water transport (hereinafier referred to as IWT) on Lake Victoria based on a historical, geopolitical and economic perspective.
