As the global carbon dioxide level reaches its highest point in human history (407.4 parts per million), energy systems must transition from fossil fuel to renewable-powered sources. Since the transportation sector contributes nearly one-third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, electric mobility offers a significant opportunity to reduce GHG emissions. Globally, there has been a rise in demand for electric vehicles. In Nepal, a clean energy transition within the context of rising urbanization and air pollution is imperative for quality of life, socio-economic development, and broadly climate change mitigation/adaptation. This research evaluates conflicts and delays caused by interactions between buses, bicycles, and right-turningvehicles. Two concerns caused by these overlapping bus, bicycle, and automobile facilities are analyzed; the firstconcern is the number of bus-bicycle conflicts (as a proxy for safety) and the second concern is bus delay. Video datawas collected and analyzed to quantify conflicts, travel time, and delay. For every bus passing through the study site,the mixed-traffic scenario that the bus incurs was categorized as one of 72 different combinations of bus, bicycle, andautomobile interactions. This webinar will consist of a demonstration of the STAT toolbox, for the primary purpose of getting feedback from transit agencies on the tool's usefulness. We are especially interested in hearing about any improvements that would aid transit agencies in implementing it.

Approaches for evaluating the quality of bicycling have become increasingly important for planning bicycle infrastructure improvements. Mekuria, Furth, and Nixon’s (2012) “Level of Traffic Stress” (LTS) approach, which requires minimal data inputs and produces a simple and intuitive output, has emerged as a widely-used framework for identifying streets that are “low-stress” for cyclists. The LTS framework is based on a hierarchy of characteristics, largely related to traffic speed and roadway layout, that are presumed to cause higher or lower levels of stress. The term “connected vehicle (CV)” refers to vehicles equipped with devices, which enable wireless communication betweeninternal and external entities, supporting vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X)communications. The widespread deployment of CVs will address a range of transportation challenges related to safety, mobility,and sustainability. This project used a mixed-methods approach to data collection and analysis in the Portland, OR, metropolitan area. It used quantitative techniques, the 2010 Decennial Census, and the 2011 Oregon Household Activity Survey to assess how accurately travel survey data represent minority populations. These groups are of primary interest due to their status as protected classes under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and accurate data on the mobility patterns of these groups is essential to equitable transportation planning. Walking is the most affordable, accessible, and environmentally friendly method of transportation. However, the risk of pedestrian injury or death from motor vehicle crashes is significant, particularly in sprawling metropolitan areas. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of pedestrian crossing flags (PCFs) on driver yielding behaviors. Participants crossed a marked, midblock crosswalk on a multilane road in Las Vegas, Nevada, with and without PCFs, to determine if there were differences in driver yielding behaviors (n = 160 crossings). This seminar will provide a brief overview to Shaun Williams’ "Datafication of Cycling" PhD project. The main aim is to understand how volunteered app data, provided by cyclists, are used to inform transportation planning practice and policy. There is an emerging body of academic work calling for digital aspects of cycling – such as app data - to be considered by transportation authorities. This project builds upon these contributions and asks: Are new forms of cycling data contributing to increased cycling provision and infrastructure?
