The Tortured Road Towards Peace In The Western Sahara, Festus Ohaegbulam
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper attempts to provide a succinct background to the origins of the conflict in Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony, between the Kingdom of Morocco and nationalists of the territory. It identifies the broad regional and international ramifications of the continuing conflict, which began in 1975, and describes efforts made by the Organization of African Unity [OAU] and the United Nations to resolve the conflict. It focuses most of its analysis on the major obstacles to the conflict's resolution, particularly the policy of the United States. This article examines Africa's place in the information revolution and the security implications that flow from this relationship. All states in Africa now have Internet access, although the continent is still characterized by a lack of infrastructure, resources, and technology. We examine the many initiatives underway in Africa aimed at enhancing information and communication technologies. The African Network Initiative, the African Information Society Initiative, and UNESCO's Regional Information Network for Africa are only a few of the many that are trying to increase the continent's connectivity. Warlords, Resources And War In Africa: Who Arms, Who Pays And Who Trains?, Rasheed Draman
Journal of African Policy Studies
Since the end of the Cold War, the nature of conflict has changed. A disturbing trend that has emerged with that change is warlords/rebel movements, resources, and greed. Today most conflicts are not driven by "loud discourse of grievance" but by the "silent voice of greed." While it is evident that most warlords rely on the resources they capture, they also rely on external governments to finance their war effort. This policy-oriented paper adds to the ongoing policy and academic debate by focusing mainly on the sources of arms, financial resources, and logistics for rebel movements, particularly in Africa. Geopolitics In Africa’S Great Lakes Region, Gilbert M. Khadiagala

This paper examines the civil war in the Congo since the late 1990s through regional and national lenses. It contends that Congo's problems are not unique; instead, they reflect a larger phenomenon of the lack of synergy between geography and politics in the Great Lakes region. The stabilization of power in geographical spaces is the puzzle of building institutions not just in the Congo, but also among its equally weak neighbors.

Critical and strategic minerals have become increasingly important in U.S. government civilian and military policymaking in recent years. This is demonstrated by the heavy use of such minerals in many critical civilian and military infrastructures. This work will discuss how this subject has been addressed in laws, presidential documents, and works by government agencies along with congressional oversight committees and support agencies. It will stress how the United States is heavily dependent on strategic minerals from adversarial foreign countries such as China and will examine U.S. efforts to increase its ability to produce such materials in the United States by …

Domestic terrorist incidents are on the rise within the United States. Activities of domestic terrorism increased by 357% between 2013 and 2021. While the United States has experienced a dramatic growth in domestic terrorism from violent organizations, other countries have faced this similar problem with a different approach as they have created mechanisms to officially designate domestic terrorist organizations. In this thesis, I will answer the question: Could and should the United States create a federal proscription mechanism for domestic terrorist organizations?
