The purpose of this study was to explore whether leadership preparation experiences for the position of chief academic officers at two-year public colleges contribute to their perceived level of competency for specific tasks in the first year of their careers as chief academic officer. The instrument used in this study was developed by the researcher and was composed of three sections: the preparation experiences section, the self-perceived competency rating for tasks section, and the demographic section. The Las Vegas Valley is one of the driest regions in the southwest United States. Due to limited water supplies from the Colorado River, rainfall, and groundwater sources, the water requirements of the valley’s growing population is slated to surpass the current available water supply. The purpose of this comparative study is to quantify the amount of consumptive water used at a major Las Vegas resort/casino in one year. An intensive, experiential travel course in Agroecosystems Analysis was conducted in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska (United States) during summers of 1998 and 1999. The intended student audience was advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. Pretravel readings and a week-long series of farm visits, which consisted of in-depth interviews with the farmers and their families, prepared student teams to analyze and evaluate the production, economic, environmental, and social sustainability of 10 farms. Students shared their analyses both orally and in written reports. Industry-Wide Response To Terror: A Political Economy Analysis Of The Owner/Operator Sector Of The U.S. Motorcoach Industry Post 9-11, Kathryn J. Ready, Drew Stapleton, Milorad Novicevic, Tom Kuffel

The authors develop a political economy framework to study the post- September 11th environmental changes and firm responses in the owner/operator sector of the U.S. motorcoach industry. Based on a comprehensive analysis of both evolutionary and revolutionary changes in the competitive and regulatory environments faced by the firms in this industry, their policy and strategic responses to the terrorist acts of September 11, 2001, on U.S. soil are examined. The industry’s response is captured (i.e., collective action response) by surveying 163 firms operating and competing in the owner/operator sector of the U.S. motorcoach industry. Shippers Usage Of The Internet Including E-Marketplaces In The Trucking Industry, John L. Kent, R Stephen Parker, Allen D. Schaefer

The research reported in this manuscript provides insights regarding trucking related e-marketplaces and web-based offerings by truckers. Over 2,000 shippers were surveyed with 420 total responses. Overall, only 7% of shippers were currently utilizing e-marketplaces; however, those that are appear to be satisfied. Shippers ranked tracking, freight posting, and pricing, in that order of importance for trucking web sites.

A review of research literature on logistics education reveals disparities between demand for and supply of logistics management skills. Racial minorities are relatively underrepresented in logistics education and professional careers. In order to meet the rising demand for college graduates and mitigate racial disparities in the field, a need arises to enhance logistics education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s). HBCU’s are known to have a high rate of success in retaining and graduating African American students. HQ AFMC has consistently experienced problems with the Second Destination Transportation budget being under funded. This under funding causes the command to implement control actions on how funds are allocated to ensure that enough funds are available. This research effort was intended to show the relationship between spending restrictions and how vehicles move between theaters. By identifying whether or not and how the control actions on Second Destination Transportation funding affects inter-theater vehicle movement capabilities, this research seeks to assist those decision makers in making fully informed decisions when allocating scare fiscal resources.
