The Application Of Behavior Modification Techniques To Two Geriatric Patients, Beth A. Schneider Dec 1977

The Application Of Behavior Modification Techniques To Two Geriatric Patients, Beth A. Schneider

Student Dissertations & Theses

Behavior modification techniques were applied to the behavioral problems of two geriatric nursing home residents. For the first subject, providing reinforcement for a competing activity effectively reduced both disruptive behavior defined as requests for cigarettes, attacking a fellow resident or unauthorized removal of charts, and time spent in the hallway. Similarly, for the second subject, offering reinforcement for out-of-bed behavior had the desired effect of increasing time spent out of bed. However, positive changes in behavior failed to generalize beyond the experimental situation, possibly due to an inability to exercise adequate control over the environment. Suggestions for establishing a totally …

The Effect Of Withdrawal From The Negative Cue On Learning A Simultaneous Discrimination, Carl Merle Johnson Dec 1977

The Effect Of Withdrawal From The Negative Cue On Learning A Simultaneous Discrimination, Carl Merle Johnson

Masters Theses

Three groups of rats learned a black-white discrimination in a Grice box. All subjects were reinforced with food pellets for correct choices. No-Retrace subjects were confined in the negative goal box after errors. Retrace subjects were allowed to withdraw after errors from the negative goal box to the choice point or start box. Take-Out subjects were manually removed from the goal box during errors immediately after inspecting the empty food dish. All subjects were trained to a criterion and then reversal training was instituted. Retrace subjects learned the original discrimination significantly slower than either No-Retrace or Take-Out subjects, which did …

Investigation Of The Responsive And Initiative Dimensions In The Client-Therapist Relationship In Gestalt And Behavior Therapy, Lynda M. Pierce Jan 1977

Investigation Of The Responsive And Initiative Dimensions In The Client-Therapist Relationship In Gestalt And Behavior Therapy, Lynda M. Pierce

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Research findings to the present have indicated the responsive and initiative dimensions to be important in the therapeutic process in influencing positive outcome; yet, investigators of current therapeutic approaches have not discussed how these dimensions might be integrated into their particular orientation. Therefore, a review of the literature investigating emphasis on the responsive and initiative dimensions in the major theoretical approaches seems warranted. This procedure involves superimposing Carkhuff’s theoretical model, developed for facilitation of therapeutic outcome, upon certain of the therapeutic approaches.

The Effectiveness Of Videotape Recorded Feedback On The Facilitation Of Behavior Change In Three Institutionalized Adults, Stephen R. Boggs Jan 1977

The Effectiveness Of Videotape Recorded Feedback On The Facilitation Of Behavior Change In Three Institutionalized Adults, Stephen R. Boggs

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The effectiveness of videotape recorded feedback on reducing the rate of inappropriate, bizarre mannerisms n hospitalized individuals was examined using a multiple baseline design across three subjects. Results indicate that the technique was effective in reducing the rate of these behaviors in the treatment setting. Data on generalization of treatment effects were inconclusive. Theoretical explanations for the procedure's effectiveness are discussed.

Albert Bandura And Ellen G. White: A Comparative Study Of Their Concepts Of Behavior Modification Through Modeling, Miriam S. Tumangday

Dissertations

Problem. One of the major concerns in education today is the improvement of behavior. Over the years various strategies have been proposed to modify human conduct. A careful review of these theories shows many similarities and divergences. Albert Bandura and Ellen G. White, two proponents from different eras and with widely disparate cultural and intellectual heritage, have strongly recommended modeling or example as the major factor in shaping human behavior. The present study sought to determine what, if any, similarities or differences exist in their modeling concepts.

Procedure. This investigation is a descriptive analytical study concerned with concepts …
