Strain Differences In Alcohol Preference On Guinea Pigs And Experimental Manipulation Of Preference By Forced Alcohol Consumption, Gerald L. Appleman
Strain Differences In Alcohol Preference On Guinea Pigs And Experimental Manipulation Of Preference By Forced Alcohol Consumption, Gerald L. Appleman
Masters Theses
Introduction
The study of the determinants of alcoholism, one of the most perplexing diseases of mankind, entered its most fruitful era of discovery in the laboratory of the animal researcher. A pioneering study of the determinants of alcohol consumption by Richter (1940) indicated that laboratory rats show a preference for alcohol over water beginning at 1.8 per cent ethanol (v/v) solution, and continue to prefer alcohol over water up to a 6 per cent ethanol (v/v) solution. Richter made two important contributions to alcohol research which had broader implications than the presentation of an index of alcohol consumption in rats. …

Revision Of Subjective Probabilities Under A Bayesian Model, Gary A. Sterner
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the degree to which subjective probability judgments conform to the Bayesian model of mathematical probability theory; more specifically, the degree to which subjective probability estimates for intersections of events approximate the product of the subjective judgments for component events.

A Comparison Of Estimates Of Relative Frequency Vs. Subjective Probability, Duncan Muir Mcquarrie
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study is to extend the investigation of the general area of subjective probability by exploring three methods of asking for estimates. Inasmuch as this area has not been a major focus of interest for experimental studies, a brief review of the kinds of studies emanating from subjective probability notions will be given.
