Explorations Into Continuity: An Heuristic, Artistic Inquiry Into The Interplay Between Work As A Dance/Movement Therapist And Service Within The Bahá’Í Community, Elena M. Rezai
Creative Arts Therapies Theses
The purpose of this thesis was to explore the concept of integration between two main aspects of my life: my professional career as a dance/movement therapist on an inpatient adolescent behavioral health unit, and service guided by Bahá’í teachings in a neighborhood-based setting. Literature reviewed encompassed instances of Rudolf von Laban’s Effort elements found in the Bahá’í Writings, as well as research on the integration between the mind, body and spirit, the history of religion and mental health, and the current relationship between religion and mental health. Both artistic inquiry and heuristic methodologies were used to guide my research. Through …

A Study Of Stimulating Versus Non-Stimulating Visuals In A Preschool Classroom, Monic Lindsey
Education Undergraduate Research
The purpose of this research was to determine if there was a correlation between a child’s behavior and visual stimulation in the classroom. This was a qualitative observational study that involved young children ages two and half to four. The study’s purpose was designed to draw a quasi-conclusion that determines whether visual stimuli affect this age range’s behavior and attention span. This study will help teachers and parents recognize how visual stimulation in the classroom modifies a child’s activity. Based on previous investigations, visual stimulation can either have a negative or positive affect on children’s learning and behavior in the …

Short Communication: Powerless And Jobless? Comparing The Effects Of Powerless Speech And Speech Disorders On An Applicant’S Employability, Christian M. End, Katherine Saunders
Faculty Scholarship
The present study examines the impact of a speech disorder (a lateral lisp) and powerless speech on an applicant’s hireability. College students (N = 113) reviewed an applicant’s resume, as well as a description of two occupations/job openings that varied in regard to necessitating speech. Participants listened to one of three interviews (speech disorder vs. powerless speech vs. control), indicated their willingness to hire the applicant, and then completed hire-ability and employability scales for both positions, as well as an impressions ratings form. Contrary to the hypotheses, few differences between the “employers” responses to the control and speech disorder applicants …
