Acceptability, or the perception that an intervention is appropriate, fair, and reasonable, is a critical construct to assess when implementing interventions (Kazdin, 1981). Despite original conceptualizations of acceptability as dynamic, or changing throughout intervention implementation (Foster & Mash, 1999; Schwartz & Baer, 1991), repeated acceptability assessments have been conducted up to only 9.26% of the time in intervention research (Silva et al., 2019). Studies that have previously conducted repeated assessments did not descriptively report or analyze differences in acceptability across sessions (e.g., DuBois et al., 2016; Raggi et al., 2009). Children born preterm are at an elevated likelihood for autism (ELA) and intellectual disabilities (ID). Event-related Potentials (ERPs), such as the P1 and the Mismatch Negativity (MMN), can be used to measure underlying neurophysiology, which may aid in the identification of these important neurodevelopmental and cognitive outcomes. Specifically, enhanced P1 and MMN discrimination, measured via the difference between two alternating sounds, is associated with autism while reduced neurophysiological habituation is associated with a lower IQ. This dissertation seeks to understand the sociocultural contexts surrounding the do-it-yourself (DIY) use of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) devices. TDCS is a non-invasive method of brain stimulation which has a history of use in (1) human brain mapping for basic neuroscience studies, (2) neuropsychological rehabilitation and the treatment of psychological disorders in clinical populations, and (3) cognitive enhancement in healthy people. However, its validity and effectiveness across these uses remain open to debate. Late adolescence is a crucial developmental phase marked by significant psychological and emotional changes as individuals transition from childhood to adulthood. However, the specific impact of parental influence on the body image of higher-weight adolescents remains underexplored. This narrative study aimed to examine the parent-child relationship of higher-weight Filipino adolescents, delving more into how parental opinions influence late adolescents' well-being and perception of their bodies. To answer the objective, a qualitative method through semi-structured interview was employed where four participants were chosen by conducting purposive and snowball sampling. The self-disorder model provides a phenomenological framework for understanding how the core symptoms of Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders (SSDs) are rooted in an instability of minimal selfhood. This instability involves a range of ‘anomalous experiences’: transformations in an individual’s perceptual field and sense of being an agent of action. The explanatory value of this theoretical model can be summarized in two claims about the role of anomalous experiences in self-disorders: (1) anomalous experiences express a common trait-like disturbance that is characteristic of SSDs, and (2) anomalous experiences contribute to the progression of self-disorders into SSDs. It discusses how social comparison, amplified by social media, can lead to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression, particularly due to the idealized representations of others lives.The paper also highlights the dangers of cyber-bullying, which exacerbates mental health issues and even leads to suicidal thoughts in some adolescents.

College students with ADHD face several challenges in pursuit of higher education, including lower self-esteem, higher test anxiety, and increased risk for negative academic outcomes (lower GPA). Despite these challenges, a surprisingly small proportion (e.g., 54.4%) of this population utilize resources that could benefit them (e.g., disability accommodations, academic supports, medication, therapy). This study aimed to substantiate findings regarding lower self-esteem and higher test anxiety in college students with elevated ADHD symptoms and investigate self-esteem and test anxiety as factors associated with resource use for students with ADHD diagnoses. This article critically examines the dominance of neurotypical norms in contemporary workplaces and explores the potential for inclusive, neurodiverse workplaces to move from the margins to the mainstream. We offer a brief scoping review of the existing review literature on neurodivergence at work. Focusing on the more common neurominority differences such as autism spectrum, dyslexia and ADHD we apply the neurodiversity framework to challenge traditional notions of workplace "professionalism" and productivity. By synthesizing current research we propose constructive suggestions for creating truly neurodiverse work environments. In this paper, I recount my personal journey of healing and growth as an Autistic psychotherapist, 16 months after self-identification. Here is an overview of conceptual frameworks from #actuallyautistic authors, critical theory, queer theory, and social justice that I have found helpful. I also share some of the therapeutic and wellness approaches that have been important to me, including mindfulness and bodyfulness. This quantitative correlational study examined the relationship between resilience-type coping strategies, stress, and positive well-being among 110 NCAA Division I African American college athletes. This study utilized seven validated scales: Minority Stress Scale (MSS-37), Brief-Coping Orientation to Problems Experience (COPE-28), Athletic Coping Skills Inventory (ACSI-28), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS=10), Coping Schemas Inventory-Revised (CSI-R), WHO Positive Well-Being (WHO-5), and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT-Sp-12). The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore how parents experience social anxiety in their children, of ages six to fourteen, in the presence of parental phubbing. The modified version of Moustakas’ modified version of Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen’s analysis method was used to gather and analyze data. Participant requirements included being at least 21 years of age, having a child between the ages of 6-14, own a cell phone with texting and internet capabilities, and speak English fluently. Dark Triad (DT) traits are often used to account for individuals’ impulsivity and inability to delay gratification, postponing an immediate reward to receive a greater outcome at a later time. Life-history theory (LHT) provides additional theoretical framework to understand our choices related to delayed gratification. This commentary examines how understanding animal culture—shared behaviors and knowledge transmitted through social learning—plays a role in advancing welfare practices for captive fishes. Despite extensive evidence of fishes' complex sociocultural capacities, their psycho-social needs remain underestimated and unmet in zoos and aquaria. We explore what considering fish culture might mean for welfare practices: diverse social learning opportunities, cultural development, and thoughtful group management. More knowledge about wild fishes' lives will help bridge the gap between their full, complex lives and current captive welfare practices.

This study assesses loneliness rates among undergraduates from fall 2008 to spring 2019 through a secondary analysis of the National College Health Assessment II (NCHA II). The NCHA II, a comprehensive and nationally representative survey, covers a wide range of mental and physical health issues among U.S. college students. The survey consisted of questions which had students self-identify if they have felt very lonely within the last 2 weeks, 30 days, and 12 months. The study revealed that 54.90% to 67.40% of undergraduate students reported feeling very lonely during these survey periods. The results showed that most undergraduates experienced loneliness, …

The natural language people use to justify memory decisions predicts recognition accuracy, in part, because it conveys recollection. This study compared a traditional bag-of-words (BOW) classifier to one using BERT embeddings, and newly tests whether classifier recognition scores also predict the later recall of individual recognition probes. During both training and testing, the BERT classifier outperformed the BOW classifier. Nonetheless, a BOW approach was important for explaining the BERT classifier, accounting for a sizeable portion of its variance and confirming that the BERT classifier was also recollection sensitive.
