Unsustainable consumption is at the root of many current environmental issues, including global warming, waste pollution, and biodiversity loss. It is therefore important to identify the predictors of sustainable consumption, particularly among Generation Z, the largest age cohort in the current population of Indonesia. This research aimed to investigate the association between nature relatedness, environmental concern, and sustainable consumption behavior among Generation Z in Semarang City. The increased adoption of distance learning in higher education, which was especially evident in urban areas during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores the crucial role of self-regulated learning (SRL) skills. Although previous research demonstrated positive correlations between learner factors and SRL in distance education, a research gap exists in understanding the mediating and moderating roles of specific factors. This study addresses this concern by examining the relationship between digital literacy and SRL as mediated by attitude toward e-learning with task value as a moderator. Understanding and improving teacher well-being are essential prerequisites for effective teaching. However, studies on teacher well-being in Indonesia are few. This mixed-method study was conducted to identify the factors that influence the well-being of teachers in primary schools in Indonesia. Data were collected through self-rating and open-ended questions from 209 primary school teachers followed by semi-structured interviews with eight teachers. The results of the self- rating survey illustrated that the teachers were very satisfied with their lives as a teacher. Well-being was considered important in their work, because it can exert a positive impact on students. The results of the …

Sleep is crucial to the overall well-being of individuals. Sleep deficiency can lead to various physical and mental health issues, including more severe insomnia, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Improving sleep quality is often emphasized through sleep hygiene. An emerging nonpharmacological intervention is the use of weighted blankets, which apply deep-pressure stimulation to promote feelings of relaxation, comfort, and security similar to a gentle hug. This study explored the effects of weighted blankets on sleep quality and symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Thirty participants (M = 33 years, SD = 9.13) used weighted blankets for 14 nights. They completed the …

Urban environments can help form cross-ethnic friendships among individuals. However, many parents impose restrictions on their children’s ability to develop friendships, particularly between Chinese and Javanese ethnic groups. These parental restrictions directly impact the quality of friendships and are believed to be mediated by self-efficacy. This study examined the role of self- efficacy as a mediator in the relationship between parental restrictions and the quality of cross- ethnic friendships. Sexual assault is a prevalent public health concern that effects thousands of people every year. How each of these individuals responds is different. There are multiple factors that can impact someone’s response to sexual assault, one of which is resilience, and another is secondary victimization. The study aimed to understand the lived experience of cancer patients who abandon treatment. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data was examined using interpretative phenomenological analysis. It resulted in four superordinate themes: (i) ‘Lack of knowledge about cancer’ dealt with patients’ knowledge and perceptions about their cancer. (ii) ‘Hopelessness with oneself and God.’ (iii) ‘Distress caused by numerous cancer-related issues’ captured the challenges faced by cancer patients. The last superordinate theme, (iv) Patient dissatisfaction with physicians and treatment’ dealt with cancer patients’ interaction with and expectations from their oncologists and the medical staff. This project on geriatric psychology and improving psychological outcomes in elderly populations uses curriculum/program development to synthesize best practices. Chapter One reviews literature concerning and informing intergenerational friendships, concluding that intergenerational friendships present a novel opportunity to ease some social/cognitive concerns around aging. A program facilitating intergenerational relationships within communities is proposed. Chapter Two conducts a broader study of geriatric psychology in order to develop a 14 week course curriculum that provides an introduction to the field and asks students to apply literature-informed methods to more fully understand and connect with this growing population and their unique needs.

Improvement Of Attitudes Towards People With Disabilities Through Education And Contact, Samuel L. Ash

Two studies were conducted to investigate the impact of educational interventions and contact with individuals with disabilities on explicit and implicit attitudes towards people with disabilities. In study 1, 63 participants watched one of two videos, one on the social model of disability (experimental condition) and the other about wheelchair soccer (control condition). Participants also completed measures of contact, explicit, and implicit attitudes toward people with disabilities. Results from regression analyses indicated no significant effects of the videos or reported contact on either explicit or implicit attitudes, challenging previous findings that suggested positive effects of contact and education on explicit …

Musical training has been linked to changes in early attentional and perceptual processing. Thus, such an altered attentional and perceptual processing has enabled musicians to judge the duration differently than non-musicians. Although these claims seem intriguing, there are many questions that are not addressed yet, for example, how would the performance of musically-trained differ from that of untrained on visual and auditory temporal judgments? Pairing procedures have been utilized by researchers and in applied practice for many years to establish neutral stimuli as conditioned reinforcers. Recently, pairing procedures, specifically stimulus-stimulus pairing, have been applied to vocalizations. Vocalizations are an essential element for language development because once vocalizations are brought under echoic control, they can be used to further develop a child’s verbal behavior. Results of the research conducted on stimulus-stimulus pairing had varied results, and the effectiveness of stimulus-stimulus pairing on increasing vocalizations is uncertain.
