An Exploration Of Powerful Power Of Thought Experiences, Martin, Jeffery

This study explored participant’s assumptions regarding power of thought and analyzed examples they provided of powerful power of thought experiences. The method used was intuitive inquiry, which allows for both traditional and transpersonal research techniques to be employed. Each of the four participants produced an initial two page (aprox.) reflection, read each others reflections, and then produced a second two page reflection paper. Clarifying questions were then asked, and the final coding and analysis completed. Six strong themes between all study participants were uncovered: belief that it can work, complexity, guidance, unity, choice, and release. A shared cosmology was observed …

Shamans were the first dreamworkers and the first to ask traditional philosophical questions. They used (and still use) altered states of consciousness to travel into "dreamtime," obtaining power and knowledge to help and heal members of their communities -- the social group that awarded them shamanic status. In psychological terms, shamans regulate their attention to obtain information not available to their peers, using it to reduce stress and improve the living conditions of members of their society.

In a sample of children and adolescents with symptoms related to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), we characterized the relationship between parent and child ratings of symptoms as well as domains of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) relevant for the assessment of substantial reductions in functioning. Parent-child dyads (N = 147) were recruited as part of a community-based epidemiological study of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and CFS in Chicago. Parents and children completed the Children’s Health Questionnaire (CHQ) as well as the DePaul Pediatric Health Questionnaire (DPHQ). Results show that inter-rater reliability between parent and child responses was typically strong, however, in …

Atypical attention has long been implicated in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) yet our understanding of the early development of this ability has been limited by methodological factors. Background

Loneliness, or the perceived discrepancy between the quantity and quality of ones’ actual social relationships and desired level of connectedness, is a potentially important psychosocial factor in lung cancer patients. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship of loneliness to depressive symptoms, quality of life, and social-cognitive variables and to explore the role of loneliness in mediating relationships between social-cognitive variables and depressive symptoms and quality of life. Finally, the study examined whether loneliness predicted change over time in depressive symptoms and quality of life.

Chi Kung Facilitates Integral Growth: An Empirical Investigation C. Arnold, E. Bruggerman, H. Kim, & A. Combs[1]

Swiss cultural philosopher Jean Gebser (1949/1986) proposed a theory of the evolutionary development of structures of consciousness that describes the common ways people living in different periods of history interpreted reality and constructed their worldviews. These included four major structures corresponding to four historical epochs, an archaic, magic, mythic, and mental structure which remains dominant today. Citing changes in art, literature, and scientific during the 20th century, Gebser also proposed the emergence of a forthcoming fifth structure, that he termed integral consciousness.

Given the broad framework of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports model, its barriers to adaptability and implementation in schools have affected an increased emphasis on exploration and measurement of treatment integrity. A tool directly linked with a model of treatment integrity is the Implementation Beliefs Assessment (IBA; Sanetti, Long, Neugebaur, & Kratochwill, 2012). The IBA has preliminary evidence indicating it is a psychometrically sound measure; however, since it is a measure related to behavior change, assessing its predictive validity of treatment integrity is a useful indicator of this tool’s value during the consultation process. Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare inborn error of metabolism that can be managed through lifelong treatment adherence to a restricted diet and supplemental medical formula (Vockley et al., 2014). Untreated PKU can result in severe intellectual disability, anxiety, depression, executive functioning deficits, and seizures (Cappelletti et al., 2013; Moyle et al., 2007). Even individuals who are continuously treated for PKU can experience high rates of anxiety and depression, executive functioning deficits, social difficulties, and lower full-scale IQ scores than their siblings and parents (Bosch et al., 2015; Manti et al., 2016; Waisbren et al., 2007). We examined the relationship between perceived benefits and willingness to mentor in a formal program with personality as a moderator. Findings indicated that the relationship was more strongly positive for individuals who demonstrated high levels of conscientiousness and openness than for those with low levels.
