Framework For Ethical Decision Making: How Various Types Of Unethical Clothing Production Have Different Impacts On People, Ebru Pinar

The purpose of this study was to evaluate how various types of unethical clothing manufacturing impacts peoples’ shopping attitude in different ways. The study also focused on if there was an effect on how people decided what they find more important and if there was a change in their decision making after being informed. Using an online survey, Kennesaw State University college students, faculty, staff, and community members (n=78) were conducted randomly. As a result, Fair trade (p=0.032), Sweatshop or Child labor (p=0.007), and Sustainable Material (p=0.020) had statistically significant differences after being informed. …

Burnout is a concept that has been studied within the past 35+ years becoming widely known and recognized around 1980 in various disciplines ranging from the professional workforce, to athletic coaches, to youth sports. The first burnout study conducted within a sport setting focused on coaching burnout, and since then, new developments have occurred concentrating on athletes. Burnout is a term defined as a withdrawal from a particular sport noted by a reduced sense of accomplishment, devaluation or resentment of the sport, with proponents of physical and psychological exhaustion. “I didn’t always want to become a psychologist.” That is the way Dr. Jennifer Mangels began her interview. For someone who was not sure what career path to follow while in college, she has not done badly at all.

A native of Morristown, New Jersey, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and a doctorate in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. Today she is a professor and chair in the Department of Psychology of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College.

Stroke is a leading cause of disability worldwide. To promote better outcome for stroke survivors, scientists use animal models to understand basic mechanisms of stroke, rehabilitation, and recovery. Rodent models have revealed that skilled reach training (e.g., coordinated use of digits and limbs) promotes improved functional outcome following stroke. The single-pellet task (SPT) is widely used in rats; however, it can be an insensitive measure in other species, such as mice. There has been quite a bit of research on traditional forms of bullying, which has demonstrated links to various demographic and psychosocial factors. Abstract

Despite their widespread use in employee selection procedures, personality measures are susceptible to applicant faking. Explicit warnings, often included in test instructions to deter faking behavior, inform applicants that items are included on the test to detect faking, and that those caught faking, will be removed from the applicant pool (i.e., invalidation warnings). The current research examined the effectiveness of another warning type informing applicants that faking is not in their best interest, as it is likely to get them into a job for which they are a poor fit (i.e., job fit warnings). This dissertation examines frame disputes within the environmental movement over geoengineering proposals. Among other core framing tasks, social movement organizations must evaluate solutions and strategies for the social problems they seek to address. These framings are frequently disputed by those within the movement. Recent controversies regarding a set of climate intervention proposals commonly known as geoengineering offer the opportunity to document the ongoing construction of competing visions of environmental sustainability. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of White privilege awareness (WPA) and perceived efficacy on attitudes toward African Americans. Participants will either be primed with a heightened WPA passage or a race irrelevant control passage and they will also be informed of the probability that their efforts might yield (high vs. low efficacy) before answering a series of questions. The present study examined the effects of information included in candidates’ online networking profiles on recruiters’ perceptions and ratings of their likelihood of inviting the candidate for a job interview. Specifically, this study used a status generalization theory perspective to examine the weighting of information related to candidate physical attractiveness, gender, and qualification to predict perceived expectations for intellectual competence, likability, and social skills. These expectations then predicted whether the candidate should be recommended for a job interview. While participants relied almost exclusively on qualification information when making judgments of intellectual competence, candidates placed increased weight on attractiveness when rating …

Does the posture of people experiencing homelessness affect our judgments about them? Is our perception of their capability or approachability affected by whether they are standing or sitting? To investigate this question experimentally, photographs featuring 5 men and 5 women in 5 different posture positions (standing, leaning, squatting, sitting, and laying) were presented to 50 participants in an online survey. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental disorder often associated with military servicemembers. Two common types of trauma associated with PTSD in servicemembers are combat and Military Sexual Trauma (MST). MST is defined as sexual harassment that is threatening in character or physical assault of a sexual nature that occurred while the victim was in the military. Stigma, or the negative social identity attributed to a feature or characteristics of an individual, is a factor associated with both PTSD and MST.
