Dynamic social impact theory (DSIT; Latane, 1996) suggests that social influence leads to four phenomena: clustering (regional differences in attitudes), correlation (emergent relationships between attitudes), consolidation (reduction in attitude variance), and continuing diversity (whereby minority opinions persist). These phenomena have been shown in a variety of settings (Harton & Bourgeois, 2004; Harton & Bullock, 2007), but geographic clustering in attitudes about crime have not been examined. Hiring the most capable applicants has a large impact on the bottom line of an organization. The most effective tools to identify talent are well known to IndustrialOrganizational Psychologists, but these analytical tools are used less frequently than less effective intuitive procedures, such as the traditional unstructured job interview. In a survey of university faculty, we found that the most important factor influencing the use of a selection tool was its perceived validity, but these perceptions were not wellcalibrated to actual criterion related validity. The error-related negativity (ERN) and post-error positivity (Pe) components of the event-related potential (ERP) arerelatively stable over time. The current study further assessed the temporal reliability of ERN and Pe amplitudes forrandom samples of 2 to 14 trials per participant and the grand mean over a 2-week retest interval. In a replication ofprevious results, intraclass and zero-order correlations revealed moderate to good temporal stability for participants’(N520) grand mean ERN and Pe component amplitudes. Adding trials increased test–retest reliabilities; however, thetemporal stability of ERN and Pe amplitudes with 14 or fewer trials were modest at best and considerably lower thanthat for …

Objective: To evaluate the Patient Care Monitor (PCM1.0) Acute Distress and DespairnormalizedTscores as indicators of a diagnosis of Major Depression according to theStructured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders (SCID).Methods: Subjects were 21 adult cancer patients identified by treating communityoncologists as having significant emotional distress matched on age, cancer type, treatmenthistory, and sex to 21 patients not having significant distress. All completed e/tablet PCM 1.0and SCID administered by trained interviewers. Unweighted kappa and receiver operatingcharacteristics (ROC) analyses were used to assess scale properties.Results: Agreement between SCID Major Depression and Acute Distress and Despair(TX65) were kappa50.751 and 0.755, respectively. The purpose of this research was to develop a cultural tolerance scale, and determine how well it correlates with certain personality dimensions as well as expected stress. The cultural tolerance scale was administered to 104 students from the University of Northern Iowa along with shortened versions of the IPIP and RWA. As expected, the findings showed that cultural tolerance is correlated with openness and agreeableness, but no other personality dimensions. Cultural tolerance is also negatively correlated with R WA and expected stress. Cultural tolerance is a very good predictor of expected stress. This scale could be used as an effective …

To date, research has yet to explore differences in injury based on Fear of Failure (FOF). Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if: (a) athletes of varying fear of failure profiles have different perceptions of stress, (b) athletes of varying types of fear of failure differ in regards to injury onset, frequency and severity, and ( c) fear of failure predicts injury occurrence and severity. The general purpose of this study was to investigate the role of parental influence on children's physical activity (PA) behaviors. The specific purposes were to (1) determine the relationship between parental attitudes and their children's PA, (2) determine if parental exercise habits are related to their children's PA participation, (3) determine if parental knowledge of physical activity recommendations is related to their children's PA participation, ( 4) examine the nature of parenting practices on their children's PA participation, and (5) investigate the mediating effect of socio-economic status on the influence parents have on their children's PA participation. The purpose of this study was to investigate youth resiliency employing dual methodologies, auto-ethnography and life history research respectively, to reveal how two middle-aged adults (one African-American, the other Caucasian) achieved resiliency; and most importantly, how their experiences and insights might inform ongoing efforts to promote youth resiliency. This research project was a follow-up to a previous study (involving four African American participants – two males and two females) conducted to determine the roles that schools and communities play in promoting youth resiliency.
