Research continues to demonstrate self-regulation’s significance in almost all aspects of life, including but not limited to academic success and school adjustment. Incorporating a growth mindset into self-regulation may be a potential missing motivational component in school-based interventions. This pilot study assessed trends in survey results of whether a group of high school students who receive special education with noted difficulties in emotional regulation, organization, and consistent/timely work completion. The aim of this study was to examine if a short-form version of the Rey Complex Figure Test (RCFT-SF) was equivalent to the measure’s standard administration procedures as part of a neuropsychological battery for testing visual memory in an older adult population as well as the impact of anxiety on their performance. The RCFT-SF consisted of a similar administration procedure to the standard form (e.g., copy, immediate recall, delayed recall, and recognition trial) while reducing the period between the immediate and delayed recall portions of the measure to 10 minutes. Following the dimensional-categorical model of personality functioning, this study used archival data to examine the degree to which narcissism and entitlement determined engagement in violent acts and treatment completion. The study reviewed MCMI-III/IV scores, discharge summaries, and violence histories for a sample of 105 individuals who were referred for forensic outpatient services by the court. One-way ANOVAs were used to assess all four of the hypotheses (a) individuals with more than one violent act (vs. one violent act) would have significantly higher mean scores on the MCMI-III/IV entitlement subscale, (b) individuals with more than one violent act would have significantly …

Statistics suggest that crime is occurring at a startling rate and recidivism is a persistent problem in the American criminal justice system. Past research revealed that treatment focused on challenging criminogenic thinking aided in reducing recidivism. This study sought to explore the efficacy of a manualized group therapy protocol developed for this project combining empirically-supported Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), which we coined as Motivational CBT (MI-CBT), adapted for individuals at a heightened risk of cognitive decline in later adulthood. Despite limited research supporting its benefits, adults in the United States commonly use herbal forms of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) such as cannabidiol (CBD) for anxiety. Little is known about the treatment-related beliefs that may motivate their choice to use CAM. The present study used mixed methods to assess differences in CAM-related treatment beliefs in a sample of adults with generalized anxiety. This study examined multiple demographic and neurocognitive variables to determine which ones were predictive of expressed range of occupational interests and occupational interest types. This study used archival data from an outpatient community training clinic that included the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), tests of intellectual functioning, and tests of executive functioning. It was hypothesized that demographic variables (age, gender, years of education, and socioeconomic status) and cognitive variables (intelligence and executive functioning) would be predictive of the expressed range of occupational interests; and that there would be differences in career interests by gender and race/ethnicity. Numerous studies have investigated whether participation in collegiate sports is a risk or protective factor for disordered eating attitudes and behaviors. The purpose of this study was to evaluate potential psychosocial factors (neuroticism, peer relations, and self-esteem) that may contribute to increased risk for disordered eating or maladaptive body checking behaviors in female college athletes. This anonymous, cross sectional, online study recruited 206 participants. The impact of rape and other sexual offenses represents a major problem in society and can lead to chronic and harmful physical, psychological, and social consequences. Juveniles (younger than 18 years old) account for 20% of sexual offense arrests in the United States, with 96% of reported cases committed by male perpetrators. The present study investigated the quality of life of 75 maternal caregivers rearing at least one child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a single-parent, coupled, or extended family (multi-adult) household. The purpose was to explore how rearing a child with ASD impacts maternal caregivers’ quality of life within different family dynamics and household structures. Quantitative measures, including surveys, were used for data collection. The results revealed personal life challenges, couples’ satisfaction, and perceptions of maternal caregivers’ while rearing at least one child with ASD within the physical health, psychological, social relationships, and environmental domains of their quality of life.

Student’s implicit theories of intelligence within higher education influences their academic performance. A two-part study was conducted to assess educator’s implicit theory of intelligence within high academia. Participants in Study 1 included instructors within higher education institutions who have been administered a Google survey inquiring about their teaching pedagogies, personal characteristics, and demographic. Results indicated that faculty, in general, hold a growth mindset about their students but also hold some fixed mindset beliefs. Sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT) is a recently identified mental health construct. Currently, no widely accepted diagnostic criteria for SCT exist, and it is not recognized in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5). There is debate in the psychological community as to whether SCT is better conceptualized as an atypical presentation of attentiondeficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or a unique symptom cluster comprised of ADHD and additional psychological and neurocognitive symptoms.
