The news has become a central part of daily culture in the United States and provides up to date information regarding a vast array of topics from weather to war. A specific aspect of the news, emergency 911 tapes, and their influence on viewers' physiological and psychological health was investigated. Research regarding the relationship between physiological arousal and exposure to brief traumatic stimuli, as well as research addressing the development of pathological psychiatric symptoms are discussed in the literature review. Latino Parental Acceptability Towards The Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine, Linda M. Kondilis

This study examined parental acceptability of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination among Latino parents. The role that acculturation may play in Latino parents' acceptability of the vaccine was also examined. A survey conceptualized using the Health Belief Model and two acculturation measures were administered to participants (N = 130). Approximately 70% of parents endorsed that they would vaccinate their daughters with the HPV vaccine. A regression analysis revealed that perception of susceptibility, perception of seriousness, perception of benefit, and cues to action significantly predicted parental acceptability, with 57% of the variance accounted by these variables. ADHD-diagnosed children generally display multiple difficulties with academic functioning (DuPaul, 2007; Loe & Feldman, 2007; Raggi & Chronis, 2006; Rogers, Wiener, Marton, & Tannock, 2009) and tend to show more frequent and intense homework problems than their peers (Power, Karustis, & Habboushe, 2001). Traditionally, treatments for ADHD have included medication and/or behavioral interventions (DuPaul & Weyandt, 2006; Loe & Feldman, 2007); however, interventions targeting the homework problems of children with ADHD have been limited. The Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) is one of the most commonly used psychological measures in clinical practice and research. The newly revised fourth edition (WMS-IV) has recently been published, and introduced a novel substitution rule in which scores from the California Verbal Learning Test, Second Edition (CVLTII) may replace WMS-IV subtest scores for Verbal Paired Associates (VPA) I and II subtests for the ease of administration. Yet, the validity of this substitution remains unclear. As the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) increases, neuropsychologists will need to make accurate recommendations regarding cognitive and functional decline in these individuals. Since memory impairment is the hallmark of AD, this study examined whether auditory and visual memory could significantly predict deficits in self-care activities. Participants were older adults diagnosed with AD, who received a neuropsychological battery assessing their functional decline and memory. Of auditory memory measures, immediate auditory memory was significantly correlated with declines financial and medication management; none of the auditory memory measures were significantly correlated with declines in driving, dressing, grooming, or feeding abilities. There is an extensive literature on discrepancies between adult informant ratings of symptom severity on the Child Behavior Checklist and ratings by children and adolescents on the Youth Self Report. This article presents an elaboration of a caveat against the use of T scores and for employing raw scores in statistical analyses related to such discrepancies. The T score transformation on these instruments is truncated resulting in reduced variability; this in turn may affect comparability of T scores with data based on the full range of variation. (2010) published a meta-analysis in which the authors challenged the utility of the Rorschach Inkblot Test in delineating key differences between psychopathic and non-psychopathic individuals identified by the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R; Hare, 1991/2003). The purpose of this study is to identify factors in the home literacy environment using the Stony Brook Family Reading Survey (SBFRS) in order to understand the extent to which these factors predict phonemic awareness and other basic reading skills, as assessed by selected subtests from the Woodcock-Johnson III (WJ III). The present study used archival data to examine the home literacy habits of a sample of parents and preschool children ages 3-5 years (range in months= 36-67) from a private and a public preschool with a combination of high- and low-income backgrounds and various ethnicities. Using 12-month post treatment Timeline Followback drinking reports, data extrapolated from shorter time windows (e.g., 1 month, 6 months) were used to estimate total annual drinking. The objective was to determine whether data from a shorter time window would provide an estimate of annual drinking sufficiently consistent with the full year report such that it can be used in place of the full report. Data for this study were obtained from problem drinkers who voluntarily participated in a randomized controlled trial of a mail-based intervention. The Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales and Personality Psychopathology Five (PSY-5) Scales of the MMPI-2 are becoming more popular for interpretation of standard MMPI-2 profiles. These new scales were developed using all 567 questions of the MMPI-2, making it necessary for the patient to complete all items for interpretation of these scales. This study generate estimations of the RC and PSY-5 scales with protocols in which only 370 questions were completed. Equations were created with over 1000 protocols and then cross-validated with a different set of protocols. The results showed moderate utility of the RC and PSY-5 scales with only 370-items …

A Likert-type rating scale of crisis acuity was completed by on-call clinicians with 227 children and adolescents admitted consecutively to a youth crisis unit of a rural community mental health center. Traditional methods of estimating reliability for the scale were precluded. In particular, the scale was not found to be unidimensional when subjected to confirmatory factor analysis. This rendered Cronbach's alpha coefficient inappropriate. A six-factor oblique model corresponding to apriori subscales was supported. SEM-based reliability estimates for this confirmed factor structure using a phantom composite was detailed. The results yielded a point estimate of .845 with a bootstrap (1000 samples) …
