The Role Of The Resident Assistant As Perceived By Students, Head Residents, And Resident Assistants, At Central Washington State College, Stephen J. Ruhl

This study examined how the role of the Resident Assistant was perceived by students, Head Residents, and Resident Assistants on the Central Washington State College campus.

Thirty-nine statements descriptive of the R.A.'s role were administered to the entire H.R. and R.A. staff and 90 students at Central Washington State College.

Data received was subjected to analysis of variance and t test. Results indicated a greater difference between students and R.A.'s than H.R.'s and R.A.'s or H.R.'s and students. These results may serve as a reference point for further dialogue.

The purpose of this study was two-fold. Part one was to develop an attitude questionnaire which could be used to discriminate between women with a traditionalist or liberated attitude toward toward their role in society. Part two was to choose Ss on the basis of their responses to the questionnaire and find behavioral manifestations of these attitudes. The assumption was made that the underlying difference between the two attitudes was the acceptance or rejection of male superiority.

Past studies have shown that a relationship may exist between certain forms of epileptic seizures and specific environmental stimuli. This relationship is not well understood. The objective of this study was to assess this relationship by determining the effect of a selected token economy on seizure rates. The token economy utilized in this study may differ from token economies described in the literature as it employed certain punishers. This was done by dividing the study into three experiments.

It is apparent in both lay and professional literature that we are living in an age of social crises. Clearly the shortage of resources and the problems of pollution and poverty would be greatly ameliorated if our birth rate were controlled. Despite this, a survey of psychological literature reveals a paucity of articles on birth control. Psychologists largely have their heads in the sand with regard to research to understand factors associated with childbearing. Meanwhile, the birth rate soars on and it is increasingly obvious that something must be done.

The reason for the popularity of the game is due, at least in apart, to the fact that in the PD, as in real life conflict situations, there is no rational solution. It was hypothesized that subjects viewing film-mediated aggressive models would perform more aggressive behaviors in the test situation, than either of the other two groups, despite the low similarity factor. Results failed to confirm this hypothesis. It was found that boys were more aggressive than girls across all treatment levels.

This study investigated the possibility that the short-term memory factor may be one of the variables involved in the learning of motor skills.

The subjects of the study were all of the seventh grade gym students at Logan Junior High School who were rated by their teachers as being in the upper or lower one-fourth of their class in respect to their abilities in sport skills. After a short-term memory (STM) test developed by the researcher was administered to this group, their scores were compared to determine whether there was a significant difference between the upper and lower one-fourth.

An attempt was made in the present research to investigate the effects of informational source, instructional differences, environment in the college, and awareness of ethnic and religious attitudes as the result of the administration of the test instrument.

Subjects used in the study were drawn from courses in general psychology and basic orientation courses in engineering. All subjects were presented with a revision of the Bogardus Social Distance Scale following the fall quarter of instruction (1960-61 academic year). All but a control group taken from one psychology section received the same scale at the beginning of the instructional period.

This study reports that the Pelto Projective Pictures when scored by the Atkinson-Heyns-Veroff procedure is a valid instrument for measuring n affiliation. The hypothesis that an experimental group of junior-high-school students exposed to a stimulus would display a significantly higher mean n affiliation score than a control group was rejected. A sex difference was involved in the failure to reject the null hypothesis. There is strong evidence that n affiliation was aroused in an experimental group of females, but not in an experimental group of males.
