On 7-8 May 2014, in Cairo, a symposium on Egyptian-US relations was convened by the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo, in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, and Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution. Participants included former diplomats and researchers, in addition to private sector representatives. Governments making healthcare accessible and affordable to a majority of people contribute positively to the socioeconomic development of individual nations. It would also reduce vulnerability and inequalities which are common in societies. However, accessibility to health services by majority of the population in sub-Saharan Africa remains unmet. There is still less affordable healthcare coupled with poor quality of services. Infrastructure provision is unevenly distributed across regions while investment in the sector has not been favorable over the past decades. From Brothers To Partners: The Evolution Of China's Foreign Policy To The Middle East (1949-2008), Shuang Wen

This thesis examines the evolution of the People's Republic of China's (PRC) foreign policy to the Middle East from 1949 to 2008. Using a historical analysis approach, it argues that in the past fifty nine years, the policy has changed from ideology orientated to economic oriented, from idealistic to pragmatic, and from reactive to pro-active. The reasons behind these changes are mainly due to the changing situations within and without the PRC. It concludes that in the near future, the PRC may not confront the US's policy in the region, but instead will actively engage with Middle East countries with …

Since the end of World War II there has been a nearly universal trend toward regionalism, best represented by the European case and the rise of more than one hundred other regional agreements. This tendency, however, has experienced a particularly steep increase since the 1980s due to significant political and economic developments. This thesis aims to study Iran's foreign policy behaviour in the period between 1979 and 1988; with a primary emphasis on Imam Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the same period. The thesis will seek to identify Khomeini's Operational Code (a sub-domain of the belief system and an often neglected variable in foreign policy analysis) and link it to the actual foreign policy behaviour. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis techniques will be utilized to help identity and analyze Khomeini's Operational Code.
