A Nonnegative Analysis Of Politics, Tim Chartier, Charles D. Wessell

The article investigates how linear algebra can recover mathematical information from the electronic messages using the Enron Email Sets in Pennsylvania. It states that a term-by-email matrix has been created to cluster algorithm, which allows one to mine through data and discover meaning. Moreover, nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) enables one to interpret the resulting factorization in terms of the original problem.

As the Republican presidential candidate in 1952, Dwight D. Eisenhower was advised that campaign trips into the solid Democratic South were a waste of time and resources. In his re-election campaign of 1956, however, Eisenhower managed to win a majority of the electoral votes in this region. This success, in part, capitalized on the changing political and social structures within the South. Nationalism as a political creed found roots also in the Western Hemisphere. The United States took a large step toward greater national unity in 1789 when George Washington became the first American President (1789-1797) under the new federal constitution. But just as citizens of the new republic debated the relative merits of aristocratic or democratic government, so they argued without essential agreement on the nature of their union -- whether the locus of authority should reside in the central government or be reserved to the individual states.
