Female circumcision, also called female genital mutilation (FGM), is a collective name given to several traditional operations performed on girls and women in 28 African countries primarily but also in Asia among some minorities. According to the Rainbo organization, FQiM is an ancient custom estimated to affect 130 million girls and women; there are about 2 million new cases each year. Recently, the practice has also begun to surface within immigrant communities in Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States ("Female Genital Mutilation: A Fact"). It is a pleasure to be here in Minnesota at this year's Global Food and Agriculture Summit. And it is a special pleasure to share the podium today with lots of long-time friends, many of whom have forever been associated with American agriculture. would like to focus today on what kind of future might be ahead of us all as we contemplate the excitement of entering a new century. As we look back, we can only conclude that the 20th century was mighty exciting too, and assuredly challenging from an agricultural policy standpoint.

This article will build upon earlier battlespace research by discussing higher dimensional warfighting and its potential impact upon future operations. Further, it will cover linear and nonlinear projections of the future battlefield, highlight recent research concerning five-dimensional {cyber} battlespace, analyze concepts and technologies underlying bond-relationship targeting and cybershielding and explore warfighting implications of redefined battlespace.

This is a paper about theory in political economy terms and political economy in theoretical terms. It unifies power transition theory and applies it to the central questions that now confront political economists. Will trade wars emerge as the security challenge declines? In industrial democracies, creating conditions of social justice depends on just welfare state institutions. This paper compares how three models of the democratic welfare state, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Sweden, attempt meet the demands of justice through public assistance and employment and training programs that provide for a well-trained labor force. The paper compares each state's public assistance and employment and training programs, the historical and political developments of each system, and each program's successes and failures. This thesis is an examination of the Kennedy election campaign. It is a narrative and also a brief examination of how this campaign was put together and how the Kennedy campaign staff was formed. The main perspective that it takes is from the vantage point of the Cold War which serves as driving force behind the main issues of the campaign. In recent years, two developments have challenged Turkey's national and cultural identity--a growing Islamist movement at home and the European Union's (EU) orientation toward Turkey. While the Turkish government and the military continue to pursue a pro-NATO foreign policy orientation, an increasing number of Turks have begun to question whether the country could not be better served by reducing their ties to the EU. The apparent dissatisfaction with the West stems, to a significant extent, from the EU's decision to exclude Turkey from the next wave of EU membership expansion. Of growing debate among those concerned with American political culture and democratic theory is the modern conception ofliberal democratic theory. This work attempts to broaden our understanding ofdemocracy. I will argue that modern liberalism has narrowed our conception of individual liberty. This narrowed focus has produce a reliance on the use ofpublic regulation and interest group pressure as substitutes for civic engagement. In an attempt to move past a mere critique of narrow liberalism, this essay will develop a research design and an empirical test to measure our current political culture's support for a robust democracy and its future prospects …

A Comparative Study Of Managerial Stress In Greater China : The Direct And Indirect Effects Of Coping Strategies And Work Locus Of Control, Oi-Ling Siu, Paul, E. Spector, Cary, L. Cooper

The present study aims at comparing the direct and indirect effects of coping strategies (control and support coping) and work locus of control (externality) on the stress-strain relationships among managers in Greater China (Peopled Republic of China [PRC], Hong Kong, and Taiwan) using the Occupational Stress Indicator (OSI). Self-administered survey method was employed to collect data from 249 (164 males, 85 females) managers in China, 280 (159 males, 120 females, 1 unclassified) managers in Hong Kong, and 347 (191 males, 151 females, 5 unclassified) managers in Taiwan.
