A Phenomenological Study Of Flourishing In Mid-Career Professionals, Sohyun Lee
A Phenomenological Study Of Flourishing In Mid-Career Professionals, Sohyun Lee
Theses and Dissertations
Prior research shows that mid-career professionals experience more negative emotions such as regret, confusion, disappointment, frustration and anger than positive feelings. Yet, many mid-career professionals are flourishing in their careers and not experiencing such negativity. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of five professionals who self-identify as flourishing in mid-career. This study also addressed the literature gap concerning mid-career professionals who are flourishing. Prior studies did not utilize the up-to-date model of flourishing and specifically, Seligman's well-being theory and its PERMA-H (positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning, achievement, and positive physical health) model, …

Assessing The Impacts Of Work-Related Applications Of Improvisation Training On Psychological Safety In Teams, Marne Maykowskyj Nordean
Theses and Dissertations
This paper discusses improvisational training (IMPT) and psychological safety and seeks to find if the former impacts the latter. For this study, improvisation has four main tenets: ensemble / co-creating, 'yes, and' / accept and heighten, authenticity / celebrating failure, and listening and communication skills. Psychological safety is defined as the shared belief held by members of a team that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking and a sense of confidence that the team will not embarrass, reject or punish someone for speaking up. This confidence stems from mutual respect and trust among team members. It is described as …

Evaluating The Impact Of A Work Identity Based Onboarding Intervention On Young Professionals’ Work Efficacy, Samuel Liberant
Theses and Dissertations
By virtue of their age and relative inexperience, young employees tend to lack the professional competencies their organizations need such as communication skills, suitable workplace conduct. These deficits can significantly affect how these employees select, engage, and perform in the workplace. This action research study examined the effects of a work identity intervention in a sample of young professionals. Twelve full-time working adults aged 24-30 were recruited to participate in the intervention designed to deepen their understanding of their work identity, defined as who a person is at work and how he or she is defined within the context of …
Amplifying 'Whispered Interventions' Into Loud And Forceful Cries, Joelina Robinson Machera
Amplifying 'Whispered Interventions' Into Loud And Forceful Cries, Joelina Robinson Machera
Theses and Dissertations
An equitable educational environment includes the voices of the individuals and the power of their stories. For marginalized people, particularly women of color, surviving school means existing in oppressive environments which require the stealing of knowledge while struggling to obtain an education (Collins, 2002). It is imperative that institutions acknowledge the specific complexities women of color face in the academy (Crenshaw, 2017). This study is designed to make meaning of the journey of Black women doctoral students using counterstories and composite stories to capture and learn from their lived experiences. Through the (re)covery and (re)telling of the stories of Black …
From Founders To Firm: Examining The Retention Of Founder-Ceo Social Capital In Venture-Backed Firms, Bret R. Fund
From Founders To Firm: Examining The Retention Of Founder-Ceo Social Capital In Venture-Backed Firms, Bret R. Fund
The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance
This paper examines how organizations protect themselves from the negative social and economic consequences associated with the loss of a key member and their social capital. Drawing on the social capital and upper echelons literatures, the author(s) hypothesize that social capital can be institutionalized. The corresponding hypotheses are tested on a sample of 125 venture-backed software firms and the results demonstrate that the institutionalization of a founder-CEO’s social capital leads to better performance for a firm. The results provide a basis for understanding how social mechanisms influence economic organization as well as succession and compensation in a new venture context.
