Collection management and technical services have a natural affinity that is not reflected in the organization of many academic libraries, where subject librarians are often aligned with reference. This article examines organizational and individual approaches to librarian assignment, along with the place of collection management in the organization.
Libraries are organized to provide service. The division of functions is designed to acquire materials, provide intellectual access to them, house and circulate them, and assist library users in finding information. The purpose of the New Members Round Table is to help new librarians and other library workers make contact with people in the library profession. So, we are very excited about our new project called Conference Connections. The first annual Conference Connections festivities will kick off this year at the NLNNEMA annual convention in Kearney, October 17-19. We have activities scheduled for people who are new to NLA. Even those who have been to the conference many times are welcome to participate!

The purpose of this program is to help first and second time attendees to make contacts, and hopefully friends, with their colleagues in NLA/NEMA. On December 4, 2000 the University Libraries replaced the Libraries catalog's keyword search with a new Advanced Keyword Search (AKS). This keyword index includes all words in the author, title and subject sections of the numerous on-line catalog records, as well as information from selected notes. These notes contain information pertaining to contents, summaries of materials and the source of acquisition. Summary notes are provided for items in the curriculum section, usually children's materials. Content notes are usually found in records for anthologies. Notes for the source of acquisition pertain to items in Archives/special collections. These notes contain information about …

The literature of the early 1990s suggested changes in the structure of collection management itself in order to accommodate the changes both now occurring and those foreseen. Sheila Creth wrote in 1991 "Until recently, the primary focus of collection development has been on building collections." She outlined the functions of collection management in academic libraries to include: selection of materials, weeding, preservation, liaison with faculty and academic departments, reference and user education, fiscal responsibility, and policy development. Learning style theory has been developed and applied in various curricula for all levels of education. Kolb (1985) developed one particular method of assessing student learning style. The use of this method has been documented in the engineering and technology programs of several universities. Variations in learning style due to cultural diversity have been studied and are described in the literature.
This article describes and recommends the use of learning style theory to assess individual learning styles in the classroom and the use of teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles. Sutliff (one of the authors) administered the Learning Style …

In these times of growing journal prices and shrinking budgets, alternative methods of information access are a necessity. Document delivery services have become an important alternative to providing information access beyond traditional interlibrary loan services. This article analyzes the effect the "unmediated" EbscoDoc document delivery service had on traditional interlibrary loan in a medium sized academic library. Access to the service was provided to faculty members at Wichita State University for a period of approximately two years. Use of the service varied from faculty members who ordered one article to the "super" users who ordered from 100 to 400 documents. …
