Now as Rwanda begins to mourn the firth anniversary of its genocide, it should also celebrate the fifth anniversary of its survival. As time passes, Rwanda enters a stage of social and historical development which can be referred to as the "post-genocidal" stage. Some would say that Rwanda is actually in an intra-genocidal phase, given the persistence of Hutu rebel insurrection throughout the country, specifically in the Ruhengeri prefecture of the north-west. Although the merits of this classification can be debated, fatalistically characterizing Rwanda to be intra-genocidal assumes an ability to look in the future, a task no scholar is …

"The freer women are to share their gifts with society and to assume leadership in society, the better are the prospects for the entire human community to progress in wisdom, justice and dignified living ... " So argued Mary Ann Glendon, the Vatican delegate to the Fourth World Conference on Women in September, 1995. While Glendon's point is well taken, in many societies, including the Catholic Church which Glendon represented at the Conference, women often do not have the opportunity to choose their roles and share their gifts and talents with society in the manner they deem most appropriate. The Kenyan Constitution And The Question Of Succession: The Influence Of A Strong Leader, Barbara Kelley

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, is over eighty years of age. The prospect of the people of Kenya having to select a successor to President Kenyatta raises fundamental questions regarding the status of Kenya's constitution in terms of its having assumed, in the minds of Kenyans, the aura of legitimacy to the extent that they will accept its mandate as the supreme law. This paper will be an attempt to analyze, first, the process of legitimization of the Kenya constitution, specifically in regard to the provisions for succession to the presidency; and secondly, to ascertain what, …
