After World War II the revival of the spirit of nationalism led to the emergence of many new states. Freed from the colonial domination, the new states were keenly interested in developing their societies as fast as possible. Many problems stand in the way of development. These problems are the problems of stability, unity, integration and socioeconomic problems.

United States Foreign Policy Toward China In Transition: 1966-1976, Chang Sheng-Ih

This study analyzes United States foreign policy toward Communist China in the transitional period since 1966, based on the American China experts' writings in journals dealing with international affairs and their views expressed in Congressional hearings. The contents explain the changing of American policy toward China from "containment without isolation" toward a rapprochement with Peking and progress toward normalization. The achievement of normalization has been a basic policy goal of the United States and has received bipartisan support, but the formula to accomplish normalization still remains obscure, due mainly to the settlement of the "Taiwan question."

It is often argued that foreign firms operating in less developed countries have greater X-efficiency than their local counterparts. However, little empirical evidence has been presented to substantiate this claim. This paper attempts to fill part of this gap, first, by presenting data on the level of capital utilisation in Malaysian and foreign firms in Malaysian manufacturing and, second, by testing the importance of X-efficiency in determining differences in the utilisation levels of the two categories of firms...
