Since 2016, the mobile augmented reality game Pokémon GO has renewed interest within communities by mediating spatial engagement using in-game markers that must be engaged with throughout physical urban landscapes. This thesis identifies factors that influence the spatial distribution of digital markers used by this game to help inform analyses of urban gamification, urban spatial distribution, and cultural knowledge production processes. Drawing specifically on theories of urban spatialization and digital media studies, I highlight features of physical and digital legacies of redlining within Lexington, KY that are reproduced via Pokémon GO. Despite these studies’ contribution to the scholarship, there seems to be a relative lack of interest in the South Korean state as a potentially crucial actor in governing less-skilled migrant workers. This paper argues that we need to focus on past people (rather than just objects) in our narratives and museum displays to engage museum visitors more effectively. It will demonstrate that we can use a combination of well-researched physical and digital prehistoric garment reconstructions to implement more people-centered approaches also used in living history, which bring the past to life and allow visitors to literally come face-to-face with long-dead people. Textiles and clothing constitute a fundamental element of our cultural past, present, and future. Therefore, they were also represented in many mediums, such as iconographic depictions and literature. Images are a source of visual and mental illustration and are often dependent on the viewer’s perspective. As a result, the representations of textiles convey social constructions and their cultural perception. Their study is the focal point of this article: The ways in which textiles and clothing are described by the imagery shown in Greek and Roman statuary and iconography, as well as in contemporary Albanian literature and mythology.

Demographers argue that in order simply to maintain population levels in a period where life expectancy was very short by modern standards, and infant mortality high, a woman should, on average, have six children, on the assumption that not all would live to adulthood. In the late 20th century, the study of western science was dominated by a philosophical approach to evidence as text and meaning. In archaeology, material culture was treated like text, to be read through systems of signs, symbols, and indices put together in syntax. For studies of dress, this was influential in understanding dress as a cognitive system compiled to create identities and meaning. In this approach, textiles, fastenings, hairstyles, and gestures are presented as signs and symbols used to form a statement about identity, to be read by others. Background: Six Homo naledi early juveniles were recovered from U.W. 101 (Dinaledi Chamber), U.W. 102 (Lesedi Chamber), and U.W. 110 in the Rising Star cave system. Aim: This paper develops the information for the H. naledi early juvenile life stage, as defined by a combination of deciduous and permanent dentition, and the eruption of the first permanent molar. Sea-level rise and settlement are investigated at Ta’ab Nuk Na, an ancient Maya salt works in Belize, by examining samples from wooden posts and marine sediment. The samples included Post 145 of Building B and the Nunavut beam, along with marine sediment columns cut from beside both wooden posts. The sediment columns were sampled at 2 cm intervals. Loss-on ignition confirmed the presence of organic material. Identifying the organic content involved removing nonorganic material from the sediment and sorting the organic material under magnification. This procedure established that most of the organic material was red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle). Red mangroves …

Evidence of ancient Maya exploitation of salt, other marine resources, settlement, and sea trade is hidden in flooded mangrove landscapes on the cays, mainland, and in shallow offshore locations on the south coast of Belize. This article includes a discussion of the coastal economy from the Middle Preclassic through the Postclassic periods (600 B.C.–A.D. 1500). Data from sites discovered and excavated since 1982 in the coastal area of the Port Honduras and Paynes Creek National Park support a model of coastal reliance on marine resources and tree crops. Recent advancements in natural language processing have given rise to numerous pre-training language models in question-answering systems. However, with the constant evolution of algorithms, data, and computing power, the increasing size and complexity of these models have led to increased training costs and reduced efficiency. This study aims to minimize the inference time of such models while maintaining computational performance. This study addresses the limitations of Transformer models in image feature extraction, particularly their lack of inductive bias for visual structures. Compared to Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), the Transformers are more sensitive to different hyperparameters of optimizers, which leads to a lack of stability and slow convergence. To tackle these challenges, we propose the Convolution-based Efficient Transformer Image Feature Extraction Network (CEFormer) as an enhancement of the Transformer architecture. Our model incorporates E-Attention, depthwise separable convolution, and dilated convolution to introduce crucial inductive biases, such as translation invariance, locality, and scale invariance, into the Transformer framework. At present, super-resolution algorithms are employed to tackle the challenge of low image resolution, but it is difficult to extract differentiated feature details based on various inputs, resulting in poor generalization ability. Given this situation, this study first analyzes the features of some feature extraction modules of the current super-resolution algorithm and then proposes an adaptive feature fusion block (AFB) for feature extraction. This module mainly comprises dynamic convolution, attention mechanism, and pixel-based gating mechanism. งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาการพัฒนาแบบจำลองสารสนเทศอาคารด้วยเครื่องสแกนเลเซอร์สามมิติเพื่อการอนุรักษ์โบราณสถานของศาลเจ้าโรงเกือก กรณีศึกษาการประเมินผลกระทบจากอุทกภัย เนื่องจากปัจจุบันศาลเจ้าโรงเกือก แขวงตลาดน้อย เขตสัมพันธวงศ์ กรุงเทพมหานคร กำลังประสบปัญหาการทรุดโทรมและมีปัญหาน้ำท่วมขังอยู่บ่อยครั้ง ผู้วิจัยจึงจัดทำแบบจำลองอาคารสารสนเทศ โดยการเก็บข้อมูลจากเครื่องสแกนเลเซอร์สามมิติข้อมูลที่ได้จะอยู่ในรูปแบบจุดพิกัดสามมิติ ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้ข้อมูลมีค่าความถูกต้องเท่ากับ 2.9 มิลลิเมตร ซึ่งอยู่ในระดับความถูกต้องที่เชื่อถือได้ตามเกณฑ์งานสำรวจชั้น 3 ตามมาตรฐานของ FGCC1989 จากนั้นผู้วิจัยจึงนำข้อมูลมาพัฒนาเป็นแบบจำลองสารสนเทศอาคารโดยมีมาตรฐานรายละเอียดของแบบจำลองที่ระดับ 200 ซึ่งสามารถแสดงโครงสร้างทั่วไปของอาคาร เพื่อนำมาวิเคราะห์ร่วมกับข้อมูลแบบจำลองความสูงเชิงเลขและข้อมูลน้ำท่วมขังจากสำนักระบายน้ำกรุงเทพมหานคร ซึ่งแบ่งเป็น 5 ระดับ คือ 0.1 0.3 0.5 0.8 และ 1 เมตร โดยอ้างอิงจากข้อมูลหมุดวงรอบที่มีค่าระดับความสูงต่ำสุดในพื้นที่ศึกษาเพื่อใช้ในการประมาณค่าความเสียหายที่เกิดขึ้น ผลการศึกษาพบว่าที่ระดับ 0.1 เมตร พื้นที่เสียหายมีขนาด 197.79 ตร.ม. ระดับ 0.3 เมตร พื้นที่เสียหายมีขนาด 477.43 ตร.ม และตั้งแต่ระดับน้ำท่วมขัง 0.5 เมตรขึ้นไปถึง 1 เมตร พื้นที่เสียหายเท่ากันรวมพื้นที่ประมาณ 987.33 ตร.ม. ค่าความเสียหายที่เกิดขึ้นที่ระดับ 0.1 เมตร เท่ากับ 44,502.75 บาท ที่ระดับ 0.3 และ 0.5 เมตร เพิ่มขึ้นจากระดับ 0.1 เมตร ประมาณร้อยละ 141.43 และร้อยละ 732.58 ตามลำดับ จากนั้นความเสียหายจะคงที่จนถึงที่ระดับน้ำท่วม 0.8 เมตร และเพิ่มขึ้นอีกประมาณร้อยละ 802.78 ที่ระดับ 1 เมตร เนื่องจากการประมาณราคาของงานระบบไฟฟ้าที่เพิ่มเข้ามา โดยข้อมูลประมาณค่าความเสียหายที่เกิดขึ้น สามารถนำไปวางแผนเพื่อปรับปรุง ก่อสร้างหรือซ่อมแซมให้กับเจ้าหน้าที่ผู้ดูแลหรืองานอื่นๆที่เกี่ยวข้องได้ รวมถึงการวางแผนการป้องกันเพื่อการอนุรักษ์โบราณสถานได้ดียิ่งขึ้น

This dissertation investigates the proposition that beauty—specifically, experiences of beautiful places in the natural world—can contribute to the emancipation of modern persons (and thereby developed societies) from instrumental rationality, which is theorized as a major driver of contemporary socioecological crises of the Anthropocene. Buber’s concept of the I–Thou relation provides a framework for conceptualizing ideal non-instrumental relations. The project’s methodology, rooted in post-phenomenology, consisted of semi-structured remote interviews and four follow-up focus groups with 35 then current and recently former residents of Juneau, Alaska. Louisville, Kentucky is home to a surprisingly robust – and complex – transgender community. This study uses qualitative data from interviews, collaborative maps, and archival research to analyze a geography of belonging for transgender residents in the city. It discusses how the twelve participants negotiate their relationships with the conservative, “red” state of Kentucky, as well as the geographical decision-making they use to navigate Louisville’s many neighborhoods. Ultimately, this thesis draws attention to the ways in which prejudice shapes the landscape of belonging for transgender life in Derby City.

Research observed how food providers in the United States and Canada have made changes during the decades of neoliberal policymaking that have seen foodbanking expand across North America and beyond. These changes, in part, reflect responses to critiques of foodbanking as an inadequate solution to food insecurity. Food charities have variously attempted to improve provision through healthier procurement, choice-based distribution models, diversified programming, and advocacy for policy solutions. Better foodbanking, however, does not negate the influence of corporate donors on food charities’ capacity to foster hunger-preventative change, such as the employment practices of those same donors. Net Zero ideology promises that current and ongoing emissions can be partially offset by ‘negative emissions’ strategies such as carbon capture and sequestration, allowing carbon intensive firms to narrate themselves as agents that are solving – not causing – the climate crisis. This represents a shift in liberal and corporate environmentalism away from both denial and delay, towards a new strategy acknowledging the need to end fossil fuel use while urgently deferring transformations to a future made possible by not-yet developed technological innovations. Arctic regions have experienced an amplified rate of climate warming in recent decades, contributing to well-documented increases in tundra vegetation productivity. Satellite remote sensing has historically played a crucial role in detecting and quantifying trends at regional and biome scales; however, coarse resolution imagery has proven insufficient for capturing fine-scale variability in vegetation response. Considering the spatial heterogeneity of tundra vegetation, high resolution, plot-scale remote sensing observations are necessary. An agricultural revolution has begun to take place in light of the growing awareness of environmental issues that impact crop production on farms. In the beginning of the fall of 2022, I began to study the culture of regenerative agriculture in rural Pennsylvania using anthropological methods, including participant-observation and semi-structured interviews, working alongside local farmers. An analysis of opinion poll data on housing issues. The article finds that Americans generally believe that their community needs more housing of all types, but are more closely divided about whether such housing should be in their own neighborhoods. The article further finds that members of minority groups, lower-income Americans, and younger Americans are more pro-housing than older, affluent whites.

Previous fire history reconstructions from the peninsula show that fire return intervals varied throughout the postglacial period, primarily in response to climatic changes and corresponding shifts in vegetation. The Idaho Transportation Department recently contracted archeologists from Eastern Washington University (EWU) to assess potential impacts to cultural resources near McArthur Lake in Bonner County, Idaho, as the result of rerouting U.S. Route 95. The goal of this research is to aid EWU archeologists in their interpretation of the artifacts recovered from the McArthur Lake site by providing them with a local paleoecological reconstruction. Lake sediment-based paleoecological reconstructions provide detailed information on fire history and vegetation change through time and indicate how landscapes responded to past climate variability and human activities. Streetscape imagery has considerable potential for observing urban change. The literature lacks sufficient longitudinal studies, however, on urban change considering human perception and activities. We conducted a longitudinal virtual audit to observe the change in urban liveliness, human activities, and built environment by examining streetscape imagery taken in the late 2000s and the late 2010s in Portland, Oregon. Eleven untrained crowd workers were recruited to provide liveliness ratings of 24,242 streetscape images for both periods. Tabulation, mapping, and multilevel regression analyses were conducted to observe the distribution, changes in liveliness, and the factors affecting these changes. The results confirmed that …
