The Goose

'The Rooster and the Lemon' is a collaborative work of critical-creative writing and photography between artists-writers Luis Mario Guerra and Connie Michele Morey. The text and image is a part of a larger body of work that emerged from a trip to Havana in December 2013 and is still in the process of unfolding through additional visual forms. The prose and photographs question the im/possibility of stasis and taxonomical containment in an ecological continuum where the processes of death and life and interdependent and imperceptibly entangled.

Poetry by Jordan Abel. This poem is composed from 91 public domain Western novels that are freely available on Project Gutenberg. In total, the source text is over 10,000 pages long and is authored by 20 different writers. When all of the novels were searched simultaneously, there were 41 instances of the phrase "wild life." The resulting poem provides a contextual space where the language of a single word or phrase can be read.

But the answer is in the positive. Subaltern's voices can be heard in the poems on the division of Korea. Here, divided Korea is compared to a severed human body in deep pain as if an actual human body had been severed. It is also represented as an unnatural state that will end in apocalyptic vision. Eco-feminism, cultural study and the environment coalesce in the form of poetic cultural commentary, originally fieldnotes. I draw exclusively from my years in the Alaskan Arctic among the Iñupiat Eskimo, who call themselves "the People of the Whale." The striking and severe natural environment, a landscape of endless ice, is central to the poetry, which richly portrays a vision of the Arctic absent from tourist travel guides, National Geographic and anthropological volumes.
