Due to the geographical setting, the Lakshmipur district of Bangladesh experiences adverse effects of global climate change that include but are not limited to natural disasters such as tropical cyclones, storm surges, coastal flooding, and riverbank erosion. Massive declines in sea ice cover and widespread warming seawaters across the Pacific Arctic region over the past several decades have resulted in profound shifts in marine ecosystems that have cascaded throughout all trophic levels. The Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO) provides sampling infrastructure for a latitudinal gradient of biological "hotspot" regions across the Pacific Arctic region, with eight sites spanning the northern Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas. This article raises four fundamental questions to help model users decide whether to use any model: (1) Can the user understand the model? (2) Can the audience understand the model? Increasing fire size and severity in the western United States causes changes to ecosystems, species’ habitat use, and interspecific interactions. Wide-ranging carnivore and ungulate mammalian species and their interactions may be influenced by an increase in fire activity in northern California. Depending on the fire characteristics, ungulates may benefit from burned habitat due to an increase in forage availability, while carnivore species may be differentially impacted, but ultimately driven by bottom-up processes from a shift in prey availability. Respiratory illnesses, such as asthma and allergy disorders, are disproportionately more common among minority racial/ethnic groups and those of low socioeconomic status. In the United States, asthma prevalence and severity are highest among Puerto Ricans (19.2%), American Indians/Alaska Natives (13%), and Black Americans (12.7%) and higher in families living below the poverty threshold than among those living above it (11% vs 8%–9%).¹ Many studies of asthma/allergy inequalities assume that genetic differences underlie racial/ethnic differences in these disorders, pointing to genetic ancestry differences between races, but most genetic variants fail to explain racial/ethnic differences and are usually studied only in …

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์การเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินที่มีผลต่อปริมาณน้ำท่าในลุ่มน้ำระยอง วิธีการวิจัยเริ่มจากจำลองการเกิดน้ำท่าด้วยแบบจำลอง Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) โดยสอบเทียบค่าพารามิเตอร์และทดสอบประสิทธิภาพแบบจำลองด้วยปริมาณน้ำท่าตรวจวัดรายวันใน พ.ศ. 2558-2563 จากนั้นวิเคราะห์รูปแบบการเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินในลุ่มน้ำระยองระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2553-2559 เพื่อคาดการณ์การใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินใน พ.ศ. 2570 2575 และ 2580 ด้วยแบบจำลอง CA-Markov ผลการศึกษาพบว่าแบบจำลองสามารถคาดการณ์กราฟน้ำท่าได้ในระดับพอใช้ในลุ่มน้ำดอกกราย ลุ่มน้ำหนองปลาไหล และลุ่มน้ำคลองใหญ่ ในขณะที่ลุ่มน้ำทับมาคาดการณ์ปริมาณน้ำท่าในช่วงอัตราการไหลสูงได้ต่ำกว่าความเป็นจริง ส่วนลุ่มน้ำบ้านค่ายไม่สามารถจำลองปริมาณน้ำท่าได้อย่างถูกต้อง สำหรับการเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินของลุ่มน้ำระยอง พบว่าพื้นที่สิ่งปลูกสร้างมีแนวโน้มเพิ่มขึ้นทุกปีและการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินภาคเกษตรกรรมบางประเภท มีแนวโน้มลดลง จึงกำหนดสถานการณ์การจำลองการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินในอนาคตได้ 2 แบบ ที่มีพื้นที่อุตสาหกรรมเพิ่มขึ้นและเกษตรกรรมลดลงในอัตราที่ต่างกัน โดยใน พ.ศ. 2570 2575 2580 พบว่าลุ่มน้ำระยองมีปริมาณน้ำท่าเพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 23.18 24.95 25.94 จาก พ.ศ. 2563 ในสถานการณ์ที่อุตสาหกรรมเพิ่มขึ้นเฉลี่ยต่อปีร้อยละ 0.5 และพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมลดลงเฉลี่ยต่อปีร้อยละ 0.5 การใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินประเภท พืชไร่ ยางพารา อุตสาหกรรม และพื้นที่ชุมชน สามารถอธิบายการเปลี่ยนแปลงปริมาณน้ำท่าของลุ่มน้ำระยองได้มากที่สุดทั้ง 2 สถานการณ์ (R2 ระหว่าง 0.85-0.99) เมื่อพิจารณาลุ่มน้ำย่อย พบว่าลุ่มน้ำทับมามีปริมาณน้ำท่าเพิ่มขึ้นมากที่สุดจาก พ.ศ. 2563 ร้อยละ 50.40 เนื่องจากมีพื้นที่อุตสาหกรรมและชุมชนเพิ่มขึ้นและพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมลดลงมากกว่าลุ่มน้ำย่อยอื่น

งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ลักษณะและรูปแบบทางพื้นที่ของปริมาณฝนจากพายุฤดูร้อนตามสภาวะของปรากฏการณ์เอนโซ ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือตอนบนของประเทศไทยด้วยแบบจำลอง Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) วิธีการวิจัยเริ่มจากประมวลผลแบบจำลอง WRF ด้วยชุดพารามิเตอร์ทางคิวมูลัส 4 ชุด ได้แก่ Kain-Fritsh (KF) Bett-Miller-Janjic (BMJ) Grell-Devenyi (GD) และ Grell-3D (G3) ในเดือนมีนาคมถึงพฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2560-2564 จากนั้นตรวจสอบความถูกต้องด้วยข้อมูลเรดาร์ตรวจอากาศสกลนครที่ปรับแก้ความเอนเอียงเชิงพื้นที่ (Spatially Variable Bias Correction) ด้วยข้อมูลจากสถานีตรวจวัดอากาศภาคพื้นดิน 5 แห่ง ผลการศึกษาพบว่าชุดพารามิเตอร์ BMJ มีประสิทธิภาพเหมาะสมที่สุดในการจำลองปริมาณฝนจากพายุฤดูร้อน โดยมีความคลาดเคลื่อน (RMSE) ของปริมาณฝนรายชั่วโมงและความเร็วลมจากข้อมูลเรดาร์ เท่ากับ 4.98 มิลลิเมตร และ 4.78 นอต ตามลำดับ เมื่อวิเคราะห์ลักษณะและรูปแบบของฝนจากแบบจำลอง WRF ในเดือนมีนาคมและเมษายน พ.ศ. 2553-2564 พบว่าส่วนใหญ่เป็นกลุ่มฝนขนาดเล็กถึงปานกลาง (พื้นที่เฉลี่ย 409.52 ตารางกิโลเมตร) โดยมีกลุ่มของพื้นที่ฝนตกหนัก (มากกว่า 35 มิลลิเมตร/วัน) โดยเฉลี่ย 1-3 กลุ่มต่อวัน ช่วงปลายเดือนเมษายนปริมาณฝนมีความผันแปรสูงกว่าต้นเดือนพฤษภาคมซึ่งแสดงถึงการเกิดสภาพอากาศรุนแรงในบางปี ส่วนเดือนพฤษภาคมกลุ่มของพื้นที่ฝนตกหนักมีจำนวนมากขึ้น มีขนาดพื้นที่ใหญ่ขึ้นและต่อเนื่องกันบนพื้นที่จากอิทธิพลของลมมรสุมฤดูร้อนและร่องความกดอากาศต่ำเขตศูนย์สูตร สำหรับความสัมพันธ์กับค่า Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) พบว่า สภาวะเอลนีโญที่เริ่มต้นขึ้นในฤดูร้อนหรือก่อนฤดูร้อน 3 เดือน ทำให้ปริมาณฝนรายวันและพื้นที่ฝนหนักรายวันในเดือนมีนาคมและเมษายนลดลง (r ระหว่าง -0.44 ถึง -0.86 และ -0.24 ถึง -0.93 ตามลำดับ) ส่วนสภาวะลานีญาเฉพาะที่เริ่มต้นขึ้นในฤดูร้อนเท่านั้นส่งผลให้ปริมาณฝนรายวันในช่วงครึ่งเดือนหลังของมีนาคมและเมษายนเพิ่มขึ้น (r = -0.86 และ -0.58 ตามลำดับ) สำหรับพื้นที่ฝนหนักเพิ่มขึ้นเฉพาะครึ่งเดือนหลังของเมษายนเท่านั้น (r = -0.59) ดังนั้นจึงสรุปได้ว่าสภาวะเอนโซส่งผลต่อปริมาณฝนในช่วงเดือนมีนาคมและเมษายนชัดเจนกว่าเดือนพฤษภาคม

In this chapter we examine six compelling on-the-ground experiences, which are demonstrating pathways to sustainability, resilience and regeneration. Each case opens a pathway to sustainability in a key sphere of human activity: industry, development, business, agriculture, economy and politics. Across the globe climate change has become an issue of growing concern for both Indigenous and non – Indigenous peoples alike. In Northern Canada this narrative is no different. For Indigenous groups such as the Jean Marie River First Nation (JMRFN) anthropogenic climate change is not only a reality but is visible through their daily interactions with the environment around them.
