The Banana Regions Of East Africa: The Regional Distribution & Cultural Significance Of A Traditional Food Crop, Henry Randiga
The Banana Regions Of East Africa: The Regional Distribution & Cultural Significance Of A Traditional Food Crop, Henry Randiga
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The study of bananas in East Africa by geographers has been neglected. Some study has been made by agriculturists and anthropologists on a small scale. The anthropologist have concentrated their work more on ethnic groups than on the spatial pattern of the crop as such. In none of the studies has distribution been correlated with the Bantu people in East Africa. For a long time the banana has been a staple food la the region. The present study points out that in spite of the many changes which have occurred the banana continues to serve as the staple food crop …
A Historical Description Of The Areal Distribution Of The Churches Of Warren County, Kentucky, Neilam Adams
A Historical Description Of The Areal Distribution Of The Churches Of Warren County, Kentucky, Neilam Adams
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Religion is a part of man and his culture. We cannot understand the totality of man if we do not understand his religion. The church structure is the visible expression of man's religion.
The purpose of this study is to describe the distribution of churches in Warren County, Kentucky, and to examine the factors that contribute to this areal pattern. In an attempt to further clarify this human-religious expression the following points will be considered: (1) the reasons for denominational change through time; (2) the association of church location and population with corresponding rural -urban shifts; and (3) the style …

Occasional Papers in Geography
Occasional Papers in Geography Publication No. 1
This guide is an outgrowth of field trips I have made with students in biogeography classes at Portland State University. When I first began these field trips I was surprised that such a guide was not available. It seemed such a natural thing to have, given the spectacular laboratory of the Cascades where is displayed one of the most dramatic sequences of contrasting environments on earth. Within less than 100 miles you pass from a cloudy marine climate to a semi-arid continental climate, from a lush green land with towering trees to desert …

Nebraska Droughts A Study Of Their Past Chronological And Spatial Extent With Implications For The Future, Merlin P. Lawson, Allan Reiss, Randy Phillips, Kenneth Livingston
Nebraska Droughts A Study Of Their Past Chronological And Spatial Extent With Implications For The Future, Merlin P. Lawson, Allan Reiss, Randy Phillips, Kenneth Livingston
Department of Geography: Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was to measure the spatial and temporal dimensions of drought occurrence in Nebraska. Such interpretations were facilitated by the computer generation of 468 maps showing monthly values of drought in Nebraska, from 1931 through 1969. While it was found that the frequency of consecutive drought is least in the central portion of the state, the intensity of drought is greatest in this region. Maps of correspondence which relate the areal correlation between rural population density and precipitation also indicate high positive relationships for central Nebraska. Interpretation of tree ring growth values using moving t-test plots …
Recent Sediments Of Humboldt Bay, Eureka, California, Robert Wayne Thompson
Recent Sediments Of Humboldt Bay, Eureka, California, Robert Wayne Thompson
Special Collections Archived Publications
Humboldt Bay is a coastal lagoon, 14 mi. long and a maximum of 4 mi. wide. The bay has three distinct segments, South, Entrance, and Arcata Bays, each of which occupies the seaward end of one or more stream valleys cut into Plio- Pleistocene paralic sediments. The segments are linked by narrow tidal channels which are bounded by a barrier spit on the west and by high valley interfluves on the east. Climate of the area is rainy temperate . Tides are of the mixed type with a mean range of 6.5 ft.
Textural variations of the surface sediments in …

Quantitative Analysis Of Pinedale Landforms, Beartooth Mountains, Montana And Wyoming, William L. Graf

The spatial distribution of terminal moraines in alpine valleys can be quantitatively described using distance/regression models. Surface parameters indicative of age may also be numerically analyzed. Evaluation of postglacial modification of valley sides between terminal moraines provides an additional indicator of relative age of valley segments. Analysis of the geomorphology of alpine features in the upper Rock Creek drainage in the southeastern Beartooth Mountains, Montana, shows that glaciers in this area deposited evidence of two Bull Lake, four Pinedale, and two Neo glacial advances.

Food Retailing And Consumer Behaviour In Waterloo, Ontario, Wayne Dennis Hilmo
Food Retailing And Consumer Behaviour In Waterloo, Ontario, Wayne Dennis Hilmo
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
The main objective of this study is to develop a computer model to predict the food stores which individual consumers choose for the major part of their grocery purchases. It is worthwhile to develop such a predictive model for two reasons. In the first place, it is useful to be able to predict consumer store choices for purposes of retail planning. Secondly, a working predictive model illuminates the main bases of the consumer spatial choice process and thus adds to our understanding of urban spatial organization.
A basic idea of model building is that a model is a simplification of …
An Analysis Of The Economic Factors And Changes In Land-Use Associated With The Transition To A Beef Feedlot System In Waterloo County, Gary B. Griffith
An Analysis Of The Economic Factors And Changes In Land-Use Associated With The Transition To A Beef Feedlot System In Waterloo County, Gary B. Griffith
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
The first objective of this study is to examine the transition from the traditional system of agriculture to a relatively new type of operation, the beef feedlot enterprise. This will incldue not only an examination of the actual transition but also the factors which were conducive to such a change. In this respect, the current, as well as the past position of beef in the agricultural economy, will be discussed as a contributing factor to the movement toward specialization. The views and attitudes of the framers in the study group concerning their change in vocation will also be examined and …
