Objectives: Many South Africans do not consume enough fruit and vegetables. However, people are generally aware of the benefits of adequate consumption. To understand this gap between knowledge and practice, this study investigated underlying factors influencing consumption through a qualitative, cross-sectional, descriptive case study conducted in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town.

Methods: Four focus groups to gain broad understanding and 15 interviews with strategically selected individuals influential in food preparation, distribution or consumption, to gain in-depth understanding of specific factors influencing fruit and vegetable consumption were conducted.

Results: The study identified a number of drivers of fruit and vegetable consumption patterns. …

The purpose of this research was to examine the mobility that has become associated with the Trans-America Trail (TAT). I explored the ways this motorcycle route changes across space, how the characteristics of adventure motorcyclists have created the representation of the TAT, and how the mobility of this route can be described in terms of Cresswell's six politics of mobility––motivation, speed, rhythm, route, experience, and friction. From August 2014 through July 2015, the Delta Narratives project, on contract to the Delta Protection Commission, addressed two questions. First, in what ways does the historical experience of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta contribute to an understanding of key themes in regional and American history? Second, how might Delta stories gain wider appreciation within the region, throughout Northern California, and among people in the rest of California and beyond?

This article examines the religious transformation of the Muslim middle class and its relationship with the growing sharia market in post-New Order Indonesia. It argues that in the Indonesian neo-liberal era, this spiritual revival considerably influenced the economic realm. The transformation of piety of the Indonesian middle class marked the emergence of new potential economic markets. It was responded to enthusiastically by markets producing selective products with a spiritual content. In its process, the role of spiritual lifestyle agents played a pivotal role in helping and shaping the new urban middle class who consume Islam to mark their Islamic identity. …

This article begins with the emergence and shared assumptions of the absence of the state in Lapindo case. This article aims to problematize ‘the truth’ of such assumptions. Adopting Oliver-Smith’s definition of “disasters of development,” this article argues that disaster is not just an event but also a process which can be elaborated through an examination of encompassing political agendas. Therefore, it can trigger the awareness of preventive actions prior to a disaster. The argument of the article are based on a series of critical re-reading of public documents related to the case.
