A Study Of The Recreational Impact On Nolin Flood Control Reservoir In West Central Kentucky, Afolabi Adedibu
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purposes of this study are: (1) to consider factors that influenced the creation of Nolin Reservoir, and the selection of its recreation sites, (2) to consider the growth and the variations in attendance and participation in activities as a function of quantity and quality of available facilities and accessibility, and (3) to trace the changes that the creation of the reservoir has brought on the surrounding land use, value and ownership. Through the use of questionnaires, interviews and field investigations, the purposes were accomplished.
Nolin Reservoir was constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers. After extensive study, the cost …
A Statistical & Cartographic Analysis Of The Size-Distribution Of Retail Grocery Stores In Bowling Green, Kentucky, Luke Hall
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to investigate the spatial distribution of retail grocery stores in Bowling Green, Kentucky using the formal element of store size as a controlling theme. This purpose was behaviorally accomplished through a cartographic analysis of the city wide arrangement and a statistical analysis measuring the degree and intensity of selected variables. A survey of pertinent literature was undertaken to discover locational trends and to uncover sixteen specific variables suggested to provide association with grocery store distribution. One general and six specific hypotheses were presented! all were rejected. The cartographic displays did, however, yield promising similarities …
The Fresh-Water Mussel Industry Of The Lower Tennessee River: Ecology & Future, Randall Grace
The Fresh-Water Mussel Industry Of The Lower Tennessee River: Ecology & Future, Randall Grace
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The fresh-water mussel industry of the Tennessee River is nearing an end. Overharvesting, habitat alterations, and pollution are the major contributors to the depletion of the mussel resource, upon which the shell industry is based. A history of unconcern by shell harvesters and weak conservation enforcement by governmental agencies, has left the major waterways of the United States nearly void of commercial clams. The lower Tennessee River presently supplies the mussel industry with nearly all the important species of mollusks. If this industry is to be maintained in the United States, ways to preserve and propagate the mussel population must …
An Analysis Of The Effect Of Urban Concentration And Occupational Structure On Wage Differentials Between Women And Men In Selected Geographic Divisions Of The United States, Susan Stickler Hession-Eaton
An Analysis Of The Effect Of Urban Concentration And Occupational Structure On Wage Differentials Between Women And Men In Selected Geographic Divisions Of The United States, Susan Stickler Hession-Eaton
Graduate Thesis Collection
When attempting to explain the economics of occupational structure, income servies as the apex of discrimination. Women earn only 60% of what men earn. This statistic does not offend enough people since efforts to change the situation have provided only further resistance by women and men for improvement in the earnings split. Women tend to receive lower wage and salary earnings than men because of differences in types of jobs held, job training and continuity of work experience. Large numbers of women work in traditionally low-paying occupations and low-wage industries. Women tend to respond to their cultural up-bringing. My hypothesis …

An Analysis Of Land Values In Bowling Green, Kentucky, James Frymark
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Hypothesis 1. Land values and distance from the central business district are inversely related.
This hypothesis proved to be true for the city of Bowling Green. Although there was no pronounced peak of land values as found in many of the larger cities, there was found in the central business district the highest land values in the city. This particular theory is applicable to Bowling Green and probably other cities of the same size.
Hypothesis 2. Land values and distance from the nearest shopping center are inversely related.
Because the first attempt at testing this relationship was considered invalid for …

Economic Aspects Of The Boulder Canyon Project, Leonard Mckaig
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The recent passage of the Swing-Johnson bill by Congress and its approval by the President has been the signal for a general rejoicing throughout the West, and especially in Southern California, the section to be meet directly benefited by this legislation. There has been a widespread feeling that the long fight for Federal development of this great western river is over, and that we may begin shortly to realize some concrete returns upon our investment. Press reports indicate that many are already seeking work on the construction of the dam at Black Canyon, in anticipation of the immediate launching of …
