Cultural and social capital is important in the development of industrial cluster of ceramic art craft. This paper describes and explains the role of cultural and social capital in the development of industrial cluster of ceramic art craft in Kasongan. This paper also describes and explains the dynamics of domination and resistance among entrepreneurs in the cluster. By using qualitative research methods show that cultural capital is important for the change of the cluster from the one which produce traditional-functional ceramic to the one which produce artistic ceramic. There are numerous Islamic actors whom undertook significant role in establishing Indonesian society understanding toward Islam. One of them is Ahmad Syafii Maarif, one of the Islamic figures who evokes Indonesian muslim optimism toward democracy. Through sociology of knowledge framework, this research will take a look on the formation process of Ahmad Syafii Maarif’s Islamic thought. Sociology of knowledge is considered to be the appropriate framework due to the interconnectivity it provided between historical, philosophical, and sociological framework in investigating knowledge formation. This paper examines how the interactions between industrial development actors in rural setting reflect the internal dynamics of Third World countries that maintain dependence on developed countries. Power is often discussed in political discourse or in political sociology. In this context, power is understood as the attribution, capacity, or capital to achieve certain goals of the owners. Foucault does not reject this argument, but this perspective would not be able to expose the invisible subjugation. The more critical view of power appears in cultural studies. Gramsci’s concept of hegemony is often used to dismantle the cultural establishment in the process of domination that was veiled. Characterizing continents is the business of fools, inviting the charge of essentialization, over-generalization, and caricature of nuanced and complex processes varying across space and over time. Likewise it can attract the criticism that to privilege the national or the regional understates the transnational dimensions of social change, and to take a territorialized view diverts attention from the networks that cut across space, linking distant actors and places. This short essay therefore claims neither to be a reflection on Latin America-wide phenomena, and far less a statement on the most significant aspects of the political economy of the region. The work in question addresses the relationships between mining, local development and democracy, and the thus-far most contentious part of this research has focused on a region affected by a mining project executed by a UK based "resource development" company. This specific part of the research has been conducted in conjunction with a UK based solidarity organization, the Peru Support Group as well as with Oxfam UK's office in Perú. The eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV I AIDS, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop a global partnership for development. Growing consensus on the accelerated greenhouse effect indicates that potential increases in both sea levels and tropical storms will pose problems for atoll states, especially Tuvalu. Land areas and water supplies may be threatened by coastal erosion, depleting agricultural and fisheries potential. Tuvalu’s economy is limited and partly reliant on aid and remittances whose sustainability is uncertain. More than a third of the population now lives in overcrowded conditions in the urban center of Funafuti. Population growth has accelerated since independence, despite attempts to implement a population policy, while opportunities for temporary or permanent emigration have not increased.
