This thesis, presenting a resume of publicity granted welfare organizations by Milwaukee newspapers, over a period extending from 1928 to 1931, is intended to indicate the method in which social news, welfare appeals, and activities notes are handled. Especially during the present economic depression, the need for this type of news is urgent. The public must be constantly stimulated to assist the charities, and consequently the newspapers are used for what is generally considered the best medium to present the appeals.
