Two teams of students from Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy took home first place in two different events at the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists 12th Annual All-Ohio Residency Showcase Competition in Columbus on October 24.

Pharmacy Career Fair Comes To Campus, Mark D. Weinstein

The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy will host its second annual career fair on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Stevens Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Thirteen organizations will attend the fair, including retail pharmacies and hospitals from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia. These organizations include CVS Health, Discount Drug Mart, Fruth Pharmacy, Grandview Medical Center, Kettering Medical Center, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Kroger Pharmacy Cincinnati/Dayton Division, Mercy Health, Miami Valley Hospital, OhioHealth, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Target Corporation and Walgreens.

“Cu In The Morning” Educates Pharmacists, Mark D. Weinstein

The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy is hosting monthly continuing education (CE) programs for local pharmacists who serve as preceptors for the university. Preceptors are practicing pharmacists who partner with Cedarville to teach professional pharmacy students during clinical rotations.

The CE program has been named “CU in the Morning” and takes place from 7-8:30 a.m. off campus in the Miami Valley area. Locations for meetings have yet to be determined.

Cedarville University School of Pharmacy will host an immunization and public health expert panel on April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Biblical and Theological Studies building, room 115.

This event, open to the public, is being hosted by Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) Community Outreach Committee, comprised of pharmacy students. This panel will discuss the debate of the government’s interference in public health concerns and the right to civil liberties.

Cedarville University senior nursing students and third-year professional pharmacy students will participate in a multidisciplinary mock code on March 10 and 11.

A mock code is a simulation in which students practice what to do when a patient isn’t breathing and doesn’t have a heartbeat. The nursing and pharmacy students will use an advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) experience to learn how to bring a patient back to a stable status.

Cedarville University School of Pharmacy will host a policy forum on healthcare legislation with State Representatives Rick Perales and Bob Hackett along with Antonio Ciaccia, director of government and public affairs from the Ohio Pharmacist Association. The event, open to the public, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Health Sciences Center in Room 107 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The future looks hopeful for students who are pursuing a professional degree in pharmacy. That’s good news for Cedarville University students as the inaugural class nears completion of their Doctor of Pharmacy in May 2016.

Forbes released its “Best Jobs in Healthcare in 2015” ranking, based on statistics and a listing from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and CareerCast.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted careers in health care and social assistance will provide the most new jobs in the nation during the next decade.

Denise Simpson, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Cedarville University, is the recipient of the 2015 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) New Investigator Award. The AACP New Investigator Award provides startup funding for new pharmacy faculty to use towards preliminary research, with the maximum award amount of $10,000.
